  • Installing RNS510 in new Polo

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone had had any successes installing the RNS510 unit in their new polo.

I'm looking to do this over the weekend, and the overall process for the headunit seems simple enough, but I'm wondering where to install the GPS receiver so that it gets enough satellite signal.

    Cheers,
    Bob.

Hi there are plenty of threads on installing the RNS510, just do a search i'm sure some one has installed one in a Polo.

Hi, I did this just last weekend. Very simple. There is a little pocket above where the unit goes. I squeezed the GPS in there. Works great.

I am going to try and install 9W7 bluetooth unit next weekend. Not sure how I will go for space with this however.

        Hey guys,

Where did you source your RNS 510. If you would like to share details it would be appreciated. Would you recommend where you purchased from?

        Thanks Eric

          hey,

I sourced mine through Ebay, the Lithuanian guy (used_parts_specialists). Only issue is one of the mounting brackets is slightly bent, however this will be easy to straighten up.

Quick delivery, unit seems intact, haven't powered it yet. I got the 'C' model with the LED screen.

Thanks for the info petho, appreciate it

          Cheers,
          Bob.

If you remove the HVAC unit, you should be able to jam everything in behind there.

              It's a piece of piss.
Did it today. Have some pics, so will make a separate thread

Without vagcom programming the only thing that doesn't work is the display in the mfd.
Now I need to source a cheap mdi and bluetooth and then find someone in Melbourne who'll help me out with programming

I didn't think it was possible to get the MFD working with the RNS510 in the Polo. I though the MFD in the polo was a cheaper version that didn't allow this? Does any one have this working? Hope I was wrong....

The Polo GTI actually has the full MFD.

My install went through fine over the weekend, only two issues to deal with now:

                        - MFD integration for the NAVsystem
                        - Change DVD region code for Australia.

As a side note, I've now noticed that while on my RCD-310 the radio used to display the song that was playing, the RNS-510 does not appear to have this functionality. It reads what the station name is, but doesn't alternate like the 310 did.

Either I'm doing something wrong or this is a bit of an oversight on VW's part lol!

For retrofitting the MDI, I found the cheapest solution was to buy the physical hardware from the UK ($105 shipped) and the cable from Germany ($75) shipped.

People selling the hardware and the kit together are charging $300. Snake oil I tell ya!!
