  • Are iPod adapters for VW sound systems really up to scratch

I purchased my Jetta with a bluetooth phone adapater and iPod adaptor as additional accessories and paid pretty big bucks in comparison to after market systems.

I ahve used my iPod in other vehicles with no issues, but the VW seems to be limited in search and display matters and also has some connectivity problems.

The most annoying is the fact that the only way I can get the iPod to charge is to unplug and replug in the iPod. Failure to do this results in no power to the iPod as if its draining power.

I am also having "freezing" issues ocassionally if

    1. the car is restared - ie I leave the car and coma v=back and restart
    2. After a phone call (ie the sound mutes) then reverts to the iPod

The dealer could not duplicate the problem as I believe they did not listen to how and when the fault occured and is blaming my iPod, however it works fine in other cars and on my PC

Has anyone else experienced this problem

Have you got one of the original iPod kits, or the MDI kit?

The original iPod kits were pretty bad - Connects2 kit is a good alternative...

I Have the MDI kit - was told today that the VW computer withholds power after a perios of time and will not re power the unit until I unplug and re connect the iPod, but I think that may be wrong as the iPod turns itself off after a short period. Not only that but I opened the glovebox this afternoon and I could not beleive the iPod was being charged without have to reconnect - what the hell is going on?
