  • Engaging RVC Camera without being in Reverse

    Guys

Does anyone know if it's possible to actuall engage and turn on the Reversing Camera in the Mk6 Golf without actually being in reverse gear ?

I think the signal is activated via the CAN Bus. I don't want to do this by shorting wires on the gearstuick - just wondering if you can do it some how through the RNS 510 Head Unit.

I've looked through all the VCDS settings and I'm pretty sure it can't be done without your aforementioned shorting out theory... good luck with that one

Ive installed a small monitor on the R/h side of the dash, plugged into the cig lighter socket, the camera has replaced the R/H number plate light and is plugged into the boot socket, that way its on all the time after a while you don't notice it on while driving .

The Golf RVC (the factory fitted one) is activated (though not powered) via the same circuit as the reverse light. Having retrofitted one — which wasn't real easy... — I have serious doubts about the feasibility of fitting an on/off switch. I think you'd risk problems with other parts of the electronic system.

After-market solutions with a their own screen and a bumper-mounted camera are a different matter — I believe some of them (particularly for trucks) even come with a switch already fitted.
