RNS Maps help needed - SydneySider

Anyone in Sydney got a v3 map dvds handy for a Golfer? I just took delivery of the RNS 510 shipped from Lithiuania and they didn't provide me the maps as promised!! A friend has been chasing from a VW dealer for a copy that did not come with his car and haven't heard from the dealer either.

That is my missing link. I already have the VAGCom cable and am looking for the darn maps dvd. Any generous Sydney sider willing to help?

No maps, but when you go to the map screen, you should be able to rotate the globe to Australia, then click. It might take a few goes before it reads where you are, but that's what happened with mine.

yeah i tried that and also pinged the person from ebay and he said he didn't put the AU maps on for me!!!

Before you completely go ape, can you try one thing?

I noticed during testing after I connected everything that the Satnav couldn't get a fix on my position. The screen was just plain light blue. I immediately assumed the maps were not loaded. I sat cradling the RNS510 in my lap and cursed for 10 mins :-P

When I pressed the locate my car icon, the co-ordinates were showing somewhere North! I then realised perhaps it was the GPS antenna.

I took the unit out of the slot, pressed a bit harder on the connector from the antenna into socket in the RNS510 and put it back it. Voila, a position south was displaying and then the maps came up.

Don't know if the connection was loose or whether my experience is consistent with others who find the initial location takes ages.

So perhaps try those two tasks before concluding maps aren't loaded. I think the guy's name is Tadas... his english may not be the best.

I hope for your sake the maps are really loaded.

Another test is to go through the hidden menu and/or use the Navi key to see if you can pull up any address or Point of Interest in the "new dest" menu.

Get him to send you the disc. And then "Back it up" for future reference! You haven't left feedback have you?

I made the mistake of giving him some feedback prior to receiving it and now he is telling me that he doesn't have the AU maps.. doh!
Silly question, would the unit work without the dvd maps?

Of cause it will work ,except the GPS , He should of known it needed Australian GPS maps just by going by your postal address.
Send him a email through Ebay explaining your dilemma if He's a reputable company he should send you a disc .
Other wise put in a complaint to Ebay telling them he didn't include the right GPS maps ,I'm sure when Ebay gets involved he will send the GPS disc . After all he sent it to Australia . but next time always make sure that Australian and New zealand maps are included.

Looking at where the download file is listed, it's probably non-existent. The website that collects your money won't be, tho'.

Yeah I wouldn't trust those so called paid sites.. It's worked out for me in the end.
