  • Does the RNS510 play DVD's ?

Sorry I'm not clear on this point. Yes I have searched.

I know the unit takes DVD's but I'm not clear if it just accepts the DVD for audio play back ie greater capacity than a CD or in fact plays DVD's ie video. On some posts I see that it can be done but is that standard or a cabling change ? If so will the dealer do it ? I do understand that it won't work whilst in motion (which I don't want).

    Thanks

I personally haven't tried it, but I'm pretty sure it does... just only while you're sitting still, soon as you move it stops. There are bypasses you can fit that let it keep playing, but not entirely legal I'd suggest...

Mine does but, as stated, only whilst the car is stationary.

Since it's a legal requirement that while the vehicle is moving no video be displayed where the driver can see it, changing this isn't a great idea.

Many RNS units arrived here with the zone set to other than 4 — these have to be reset (easy with VCDS) before they'll play local DVD's.

        Great - thanks.

You'd think the dealer would set it to the correct region.

Yes it does play DVD's as a standard feature of the unit. However, as stated earlier, the region code on mine had to be reset as it was set for region 1 not 4.

WRT to getting it to play DVD's when the car is in motion.
Does the workaround where you press the steering wheel audio button followed by the Tone button still work or was that only with old firmware version?
Assuming it no longer works, an alternative is this Kufatec TV in motion although it is pretty exy.
Are there workarounds that can be achieved purley with VCDS coding?
PS not looking for a discussion of the merits or legality of doing this. I am purely interested in the available methods.

You can purchase a CD off ebay that unlocks the video in motion and is a hell of a lot cheaper.

Sounds good. will look into it. Do you happen to know if the changes "stick" or do you have to keep unlocking it.

Once done you don't have to worry about it anymore.

Thanks Guys. Actually not for me as only have boggo TSI. But a mate with a R will be pleased. Cheers.

What ebay seller did you get your CD from? There seems to be a few available on ebay ... also a few free links popping up on vwnavi forums... but im not sure I want to risk bricking my unit.
