  • Ice upgrade on Octavia. Advise needed please.

    Hi all
I recently bought a brand spanked octavia vrs wagon. I'm loving the car but think the sound is a little... Distorted when you have it at higher volume. So I was considering upgrading the speakers and adding an amp and sub which I already have. My car has a Columbus (rns510) hu and really don't have any choice but to keep it as it integrates with the car (climate control mfd etc).
So would love to know what's the best way to amp it. Now I want quality sound and I'm very weary on using high low converters as I've used them in the past and all they seem to do is amplify distorted sound and engine noise.
What have you guys done on your golfs etc to upgrade yr tunes retaining the rns?

I was in the same situation as you.

I used the RNS-510, with VAGCOM coding to reduce the power output. This is feed into 2 stinger LOCs. This inturn is feed into 2 x Alpine F345 amps. These are 4 channel units, and have bridged 2 channels of each amp to run 2 x Alpine S type 12 inch subs. The front stage is Alpine SPX17PRO splits, and Rear stage is Alpine SPX13REF splits.

It sounds pretty good, but will go to the expense of importing an AudioControl DQL-8 from the US, to replace the LOCs.

          Haha
Haven't had a chance to put in yet!
I did put a set of Rockford splits in the front though. What a difference it's made! Mounted the tweeters near the a pillars. After doing that I'm not sure if I will be putting the rest in!
The speakers were a bit finnicky though. Had to make custom spacers out of mdf. But it turned out great. Would recommend to anyone.
