  • RNS-510 Version C WITHOUT star button or LED?

    Hi all,

Is it possible for a RNS-510 Version C unit to not have LED or Star Button?

    Cheers,

    Michael.

you get what you paid for...

mine would be similar, it is version C (software) anyway which IMHO pretty much sort out any bugs in the previous one....
regardless hardware version B or C, at the end of the day it's the software that drives most functionality...

I don't think there is much different, unless the eBay listing is listed as LED display which is version C hardware, then it'll be hard to argue about it...

Thanks for the extra info. Apart from the HW version being B, the ad did state (and still does) it's the latest sat nav...so I will discuss from that angle too.

on the positive side, the seller who I bought mine (software version C) has confirmed that apart from the star button, the LED screen (which perhaps a little more brighter than LCD) features and function are exactly similar...

Is your fan loud? Mine is loud as hell and quite annoying when I don't have the radio on.

I read the LED draws less power which makes me think it may not be as loud?

the simply answer is YES,What does the series sticker say should be ITO 035 680 C for a C series, What did you pay for it as the LED ones are over $1200

I was going to buy a "new" C model from an Irish seller on eBay. After exchanging a couple of emails he admitted that the unit was not "new in box" but had been removed from a new car because the buyer had "changed his mind". Told me he would accept an offer of
$950. I made the offer through eBay but he never accepted it and after the auction ended he sent me an email to say he would re-list it and I could make the offer again. I didn't trust the guy so instead ordered a C model with LED screen, star button and V3 Australian maps from a seller in Lithuania. Cost $900. Manufacture date on the unit is March 2010. Plugged it in and it's been working great. I haven't noticed any fan noise.

yes i can hear mine... but if you leave it off then it shouldn't turnn on, it'll only turn on after 20-30 minutes of driving and the temperature of the components inside rises... usually if you're playing music on internal hdd or using nav as maps are on the hdd.

playing radio only or playing media from sd card will still trigger the fan but it takes longer to reach to the temperature threshold that triggers the fan operation....

I had the choice of a full refund...but the Irish guy has been good to me.

I was going to buy the Lithuanian unit with a good offer price to replace but the Irish guy gave me an offer that worked out slightly more expensive overall...but will get a newer unit built in June and getting v3 map and firmware disc.

Fingers crossed all goes well. Thanks for all the info!

Even with the engine off playing music on the HDD or SD card you struggle to hear the fan if it does come on at all, with the engine running or any other background noise you would struggle to hear it on the LED model.

                              Was that $900 + 100 postage?
