  • RNS 510 and Navigation

I'm sure that the RNS 510 is supposed to lower the volume of music/radio when giving navigational directions however my unit is currently not doing this. The announcement is made and any other audio stays at the same level, making it very hard to distinguish exactly what is being said. I couldn't fins anything specifically about this in the manual, or in the menus. There is a dynamic volume option under navigation settings that I thought would have covered this off, however it doesn't change the behaviour I'm talking about.

Has anyone else experienced this behaviour?

Edit - For the record (as I have read elsewhere on this forum that firmware version dictates the location where this setting is made) my RNS 510 is on firmware version - 2720.

I see there is a newer firmware version available so I may update the unit.

When you hear the nav instructions, turn up the volume. You can do the same with the phone. The radio stays at the same volume you have set it at allways, the phone cuts the radio out, but the nav instructions dont.... You can only turn up the nav volume while hearing the instructions..

I'm such a goose, found the settings under the master volume contols where you can set the navigation volume without having to do it during actual announcements. There are three settings for turning down other volume during announcement from low to high, where high turns the volume down the greatest amount. The volume controls for phone audio are also in there.
