  • iphone 4 doesnt work with VW bluetooth

    Hi,

I got a new iphone 4 and since found out that they are not compatible with the VW bluetooth. I called VW and they confirmed it, anyone else having the issue? Has anyone figured out a solution to get it working?

VW say there is nothing can be done right now, great! $800 bluetooth system for nothing.

    Brad.

Upgrade to OS 4.1 on your iPhone fixes the bluetooth issues.

Depends completely on which version of the BT kit you have. If it's the basic model, then I'm pretty sure you're S.O.L when it comes to the iPhone.

Ive got the Parrot 1.0.5 or something, its the original BT kit that came with the new 2007 FSI model. It has the little mic on the dash near the speedo. If that is the case, then I will go back to VW and get a new kit as the kit I have sucks anyway, it's never been very good to use, everyone always complains that I sound like im sitting in the back seat...

the fact that your car is a 2007 model probably explains it. iphone 4 being newer technology etc it wouldn't surprise me if it is slightly different to the iphone 3.
a friend has a 2007 passat with the same problem, VW told them they have to upgrade the bluetooth system as it will not work with the iphone 4.

Yeah when I phoned VW they said neither the new or old VW BT system would work with the new iphone 4 though. So no point even upgrading to the new system... I guess it is really an issue for Apple to sort out, especially if the old Iphone 3G worked fine with the system, fingers crossed the next apple iphone software update will sort it out.

Unless anyone else knows the solution?

The solution is simple, buy a new phone from a company that doesn't treat it's customer like idiots and actually releases products that follow standards (bluetooth for example) and you won't run into these problems.

The new software update may work but even if it does there is no guarantee that the next version won't break it again. There are plenty of people having bluetooth problems but the sheep seem happy to accept Apple's propaganda that they are not at fault just like the reception issues and the recent glass shattering issue.

The fact his car is a 2007 model explains nothing. Bluetooth is a STANDARD and the reason why we have standards is to prevent these problems from occurring. A phone sold as being bluetooth compatible should work with a bluetooth car kit, this is the most basic part of the bluetooth spec and to release a phone that does not work is inexcusable. Apple knew about the compatibility problems well before they released the phone but choose to still release it and deny any problems exist, they released a workaround in an update to the operating system on the iphone 4 recently but it doesn't fix all the problems.

The sheep that continue to buy the iphones despite all these flaws only make it worse by putting up with them (or worse buying new bluetooth devices) because Apple doesn't have to worry about fixing these problems, returning the phone for a refund because it's not bluetooth compliant would send a message to Apple to lift their game.

Thanks for your spin on things, I will take it up with Apple as I totally agree that making a Bluetooth Standard should mean that all bluetooth devices follow that standard.

However for you to totally rip into Apple like that is a bit over the top, name one other company that has a 100% perfection rate on all features, across all of their products - none! In fact name one other company that makes telephones that are 100% perfect, again none.

So before you go preaching that Apple need to lift their game you should take a reality check and realise nothing in this world is perfect.

                    Brad.

Works perfectly fine with the 9w7 kit. No idea whether the 9w7 would be compatible with your car.

                        Good luck with that.

I never said any company was perfect however Apple released their iphone knowing that the bluetooth was not compatible with many bluetooth devices, they also knew of the reception issues and they knew of the shattering glass issue but still choose to release it.

Apple are an arrogant company that comes from super arrogant steve jobs, they will not accept any flaws in their product and their response to the latter two issues has been to introduce a slip on cover (to stop you from shorting out the aerials) and to quietly remove the slip on cover from their stores (to prevent the glass shattering).

So before you go preaching that Apple need to lift their game you should take a reality check and realise nothing in this world is perfect.
Nothing has changed, Apple are an arrogant company and they released a product with known flaws expecting their customers to buy new hardware to match the flawed bluetooth stack instead of telling customers that they know there are compatibility issues and they will be fixed.

If you think that it's ok that apple released their product with bluetooth flaws along with the other ones and covered them up you should realise that apple are not the be all and end all and there are other products and companies out there that don't treat their customers that way. It's funny that you're happy to criticise Volkswagen for the 3 year old $800 bluetooth kit when it's not at fault and has worked for the last 3 years but not Apple for the new $1000 iphone 4 that is at fault

Sorry to barge in here like this (I hate interrupting arguments), but does anyone know if the bluetooth on an 07 Golf will work with Android phones at all?

Android phones are varied and different unlike the iphone where there is one model and that's it. But yes Android phones work and I've yet to see anyone post with a problem about compatibility.
