  • Newbie question ! Alpine / Pioneer head units

I have just purchaesd my 1st VW, Can i change the head unit without any consequences ?

I'm not concerned with the steering wheel controls being affected.

I've narrowed it down to Alpine IVA-W502EBT
    Alpine Electronics of Australia
    or
    Pioneer AVH-P4250DVD
    2-DIN Audio/Visual unit with a 7" Touchscreen - AVH-P4250DVD :: Pioneer Australia

Does anyone have any experience with either of these units ?

Any help would be greatly welcome
    Thanks

laguna, what vee dub is it going into?

And another head unit to consider is the Eclipse AVN726EA
    AVN726EA | Products | Eclipse | Eclipse

Everything is included, apart from rear camera.
I paid $1750 for mine couple of months ago, which worked out cheaper than other units I looked at with all their add ons

Of course, it also depends on what you want in the unit, the Alpine unit you can connect your phone, and add on Sat Nav, the Pioneer you cannot do either

And they're almost double the difference in price

It would help if we know what model it's going into.

There are cheap RNS510 unit's on ebay and there is also the Zenec unit's which work well with full integration and bluetooth etc built in.

What features did you want? Is navigation important? Do you want high quality bluetooth? Did you want a high resolution screen?

The Alpine 502 and Eclipse AVN726 both can be connected to your factory steering wheel controls with the correct add-on module.

Let me know and I can make some suggestions.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but the bolded part caught my attention, i have a Alpine 502 in my 05 Golf, and i can't get the back and forward buttons on the steering wheel to work with the unit, the volume and mute buttons work fine.

What module are you talking about in particular?

          Cheers.
