Need Help With Ipod Connection

Can one of you very knowledgeable people please tell someone who is totally confussed:

What are my options for connecting an Ipod Touch in an 08 Golf GTI?

Is it a simple case of a lead from the Ipod to the AUX connecter in the center console, or do I need more than that?

Please guide me to a thread or website were I can find some info.

i got a 2010 gti..and i tried to connect my iphone
aux lead works n plugs to the 3.5mm jack..however u can't control the menu etc from the headunit.
if u want to control it via the head unit u need the mdi to iphone cable..(if u got the mdi) option..
should be about $80 from vw.

My car does not have the mdi option.

I think I can live with a 3.5mm cable into the aux for now.

mdi is now on the to do list.
