Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I am looking to swap out RCD500 for RCD510, can anyone point me in the direction of someone (experienced) in Melbourne to do the install or at least update the vagcom coding - whatever that is!

Surelly it would be just plug and play - simple case of pull out your old and put in the new. I doubt that there would be any vagcom required....could be wrong.

You may lose steering wheel controls if you upgrade.

Also i believe you will need a canbus update if you are going from an RCD500 - RCD510.
Might want to check out google to see if it can be done as a straight swap.

Once you've done your research, drop me PM and we can sort something out. I've had mine (RCD300) out a couple of times (experimenting with the WD6050) and am awaiting delivery of my RNS so I will be on the tools again soon.

It depends on what year you're driving. IIRC mid 08 and onwards should be fine, but anything built before that will usually require a new canbus gateway. I'm still investigating this myself as i've just purchased an RCD510 for my 06 GTI, but i've heard it may be possible to simply re-code the old gateway if you know what you're doing with a vag-com.
