  • Stopping reverse camera screen on RCD510

I've just had an RCD510 system installed in my Polo to replace the RCD310.

The RCD510 was taken out of a 2010 Golf GTI.

Problem is, when I go into reverse, the screen goes blue because it expects a rear vision camera.

The guys at the VW dealer that installed the 510 couldn't fix it.

Am I wrong in thinking it should be easy to change this if you know where the right setting is?

From memory, you will need to connect up to a Vagcom, go to gateway 19 and untick the backup camera box.

If you don't know what I am talking about, you will need to take it to either a dealer or somebody that has access to a Vagcom.

This only applied to cars with a dedicated camera controller like the Passat.

No but remember the dealers have a different tool that shows them different information.

Installing a Golf Mark VI Rear View Camera (RVC) into a Golf Mark V

        Programming Head Unit

Using Vagcom/VCDS the headunit requires programming to tell it of the existence of a RVC.

Connect to controller 37 and in long coding under Byte 3 select Bit 6.

To complete the programming reboot the RNS 510.

Ahh, I see. Thanks for that.

It also applies to a Columbus Nav that is in a Superb.

Excellent info, thanks. I don't have a vagcom, so I'm getting my dealer to do it.

When you say that the dealers have a different tool, does that mean those instructions do or don't apply to what a dealer will see?

When you talk about Bit 6, does that mean to disable the RVC you would "unselect" Bit 6?

Why not fit a camera? It is extremely useful, I have one on my Bora.

The instructions should be enough for the dealer to follow, all they need to do is to connect to the head unit and they'll find it soon enough (it will be easy to follow as it will be a menu item now since the mark 6's have RVC's in Australia). If it wasn't a menu item they would have had to have manually changed the setting "blind".

Their tool is differnt in how it operates, Vagcom/VCDS is designed to show you everything at once, the dealer tool is setup more around functions with common used ones at the top and drilling down for less common ones.

And yes I mean deselect bit 6 under byte 3.

Ooops: The instructions I gave are for the RNS 510 but will be similar for the RCD 510. I'll check to see if I can find the correct settings tonight.

Thanks Maverick. Appreciate that. Also - my car is a new Polo, so may not be configured the same way as the Golf.
