Picked up my Golf on Friday, has MDI installed.
Drove out of the dealer with the iPod plugged in, got all the control info on the RNS-510 headunit no problems... but alas, no sound.
Drove back to the dealer, and was told that the rather ugly wiring harness they'd supplied, which involves one connection to the MDI interface, a USB female adapter, then a Y-harness with USB male to iPod and 3.5mm plug. This requires the iPod to be plugged into the harness, which then requires the 3.5mm to be plugged into the AUX-IN socket in the centre console.
It's a pretty in-elegant solution with a thick wire coming sticking out of the centre console... it surprises me that the harness doesn't carry audio and requires a separate plug for that.
So, have they just wired it up wrong or is it really supposed to be like that?
