  • DEALER FITTED RNS510 - Does the MFD display instructions

I have been in a mate's Tiguan fitted with a factory RNS510. He pointed out that the MFD shows sat nav instructions as well as the RNS510 itself.

If a dealer fits the RNS510 will the MFD display that same info as the factory fitted model?

(I promise I did numerous searches but couldn't find a definitive answer)

Apparently they will have the same function so long as they are compatible versions i.e. A/B/C

Dealer fitted RNS 510 from memory will not work with the directions displayed on the MFD .. Mind you this is only from memory.. Also no voice functions.

Does anyone know whether it will be the same as 'factory fitted?'

Has to be enabled Via VCDS. so if the dealer is lazy and doesnt enable it, it wont.
I fitted mine, and enabled it myself. nice feature IMO

There is no difference between factory fitted and dealer fitted except for the placement of the antenna. All units should integrate seamlessly so long as your car is relatively recent.I have a ebay RNS510 B unit and it integrates perfectly with the red MDF. I think you will need a C unit if you have a white MFD/DIS. Don't know if a older A or B will work with a white MFD.l It will display direction and data in the MFD and voice overs .(From my memory even before coding with vcds)

Yes it will. There is absolutely no difference between the installs except that you won't have a roof mounted GPS antenna which makes little difference in the operation of the unit but otherwise you have an identical "experience".

Voice functions will work if you have a Skoda BT kit installed and reroute the mic or you can install a standalone vw mic.

I installed mine myself and coded the RNS via Vagcom. There is no difference from factory fitted RNS. Seemless integration with MFD with direction as well. But as Mav said, the only difference is the shark fin antenna if its factory fitted. Any aftermarket ones will not have this except if you were to go through the trouble of replacing the antenna on the roof which is a major job. The GPS antenna tucked underneath the dash works well, no problems.

My MY10 CC has white MFD. Dealer told me RNS510 in Version B. MFD shows nav data.

Best feature of the unit in my opinion as it is in your direct line of sight. Once set I would rarely look at map/screen.
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.

The microphone is being fitted as well to ensure it has voice control. So in the end the only difference will be that the car won't have a 'sharkfin' aerial which might not be a bad thing anyway.
