  • Oh Dear...First Post!!!

My System is very bad, I have a JVC DVD head unit, that has no screen..I used to run an Ipod and I figured a DVD would be easier to control, it is.. I run some JVC 6inch deals in the stock fronts and thats it. I wanna run splits in the front, I want bass response but am not interested in filling my boot with boxes etc.. at this time. I do not want to cut up my parcel shelf....suggestions please?? Moderate priced items would be most appropriate..

    Cheers

    Luke

as i found out, u wont get BASS out of any 6inch splits . . . maybe unless your willing to hand over sumwhere in the region of a thou! which would be silly . . . splits are for clarity in mid to high, u need a sub for d lowzz . . . im no expert so correct me if im wrong . . .

go some high quality 6.5" splits and a small sub. ud be surpised how small an enclosure u can put some subs in. Just make the box easy to remove.

no real way around it unfortunately, if u want real bass u gotta have a big speaker somewhere.
If u r after cheap stuff thats not too bad go check out jaycar and see what they have to offer.

Good to see a VW car audio section!!

You can get reasonable low end from splits, but not right down around the 30hz region.
Having listened to a pair of $800 morel splits recently its certainly possible!

As a starting point, Hertz HSK 165 splits for $300 are freaking awesome though. Definitely make a point of listening to a pair.

Jaycar response are also an excellent value option.

You don't mention that you're running an amp currently. You *will* need one to power a pair of splits properly. Keep this in consideration also.

ive got sony 6x9's the standard front speakers and a kenwood cd/mp3 player. Does me fine, i dont listen to doof doof so dont need subs and i would rather spend money on go fast parts or a home stereo because they always sound better anyways.

Try some of the new shallow mount 10" subs. they are very good for a very small Box, like 1/4 cf. Have you thought about any of the powered subwoffers designed to go under seats? They are ususaly a shallow 6.5" or 8" with its own amp, and about 3" high

Oh I vaguely remember this concept from a few years ago. The consensus on car audio au forums was that they werent as good as a proper sized sub.

thats usualy because its only 6.5" compaired to an 8" or 10". not to meantion a 12" or 15".

im running 2x 10in pioneer subs in a large sealed inclosure(tuned), 2x blaupunkt 6in splits, 2x pioneer 6in 2 ways, JVC head unit 1x kenwood amp 80w x4, and us audio (cheap but good) 4 channel bridged running subs.
basicly same set up was in my exa was running 138Db...(minus 1 amp)
little bit more power now though...but im too old for loud music these days my 30yo ears dont cope well, lol...barely goes over 25 on the volume.
used to have a job 9 years ago installing performance audio... but dont really follow the scene anymore.
                          Cheers, Benny
