  • Difference between 2008/2009/2010 version RCD510 - is there any?

    Hi All,

Spent a fair bit of time googling the above without any luck. I've been watching ebay and noticed some have gone for just over $300, others over $400. Have there been any enhancements to the RCD510 since it first came out i.e would the earlier models still have the ability to connect the MDI or other aux cable?
    Any info most appreciated.

Hi Mofo, I've been watching some as well, not sure myself whether to go that direction or after market yet.
I have no idea if RCD510 differed in years, but I would suspect apart from possibly an obvious function addition (if any) the basic unit would be the same. I'm hoping someone with more knowledge can answer that more definately than me.
And the 510, both RCD and RNS, units that are on ebay, there seems to be the occasional one that is a pull out of a vehicle which appears to be genuine.
There are those, mostly posting from Asia somewhere, that I believe are just straight copies. Who knows whether they're good or not? It's a gamble I wouldn't take without any feedback from others that have bought.
And I have also seen some second hand units available being sold privately that appear to be one of these 'copies'. I read a bit into that.
    Good luck with it Mofo.

I'm catching up with someone tomorrow who may be able to shed some more light on this for me.
I'm specifically interested in the RCD but I'll ask about the RNS also and report back.

I've just replaced my 4 days old RCD (from a GTI) with an RNS 2010 model. I need to get the dealer code and then it'll be up for sale...

Hi Entice, when you find out the dealer code, could you point me in the right direction of how to find that out as well? I think I need this, the importer code and the SKC code to access vagcom. If you know the avenues to source those, could you throw it my way please? Cheers.

code for unit only gets input to the unit. Dealer should be able to find it from VWA given my unit was from my car. not sure about accessing this info if you dont have teh donor car's VIN. I now tehre are "hacks" on ebay etc etc...
Re importer code in VCDS. I think you just enter your own numbers. My VCDS cable has it's own one when I load up the software..

from what I have read, just change the values of teh Workshop and importer codes from the zeros that pop up

Could you take a photo of the rear of the unit and send it my way? The back with the connectors and also one of the part number? Is yours one with the AM and FM buttons on the front? Greatly appreciated if you could.

The newer RCD 510's for Australia have AM and FM buttons and a slightly different layout (for cars that have arrived in the last three months, maybe slightly longer)

AFAIK none of the RCD 510's have a video input unless ordered with factory RVC.

Shall do now. - an email address would be beneficial..PM if you like
Yes, mine was factory ordered with RVC.
Can't remember re the fascia buttons, but the car is a Jan 2010 Build.

I can hearwheels turning and spools whirring.. something must be ticking away inside Maverick's head...

And, spot on. it's interesting that on my unit (factory fit RVC) there is a little sticker on the top of teh fascia, stating RCD510 MID RVC....

Yes, it has separate AM and FM buttons

Thanks for the photos, gives me something to look at with regards to the RVC.

When you sell it make you make a big point out of the RVC interface (this should work for other video inputs in the future once some devices come out to adapt the signal) as very few units have this.

so the RVC interface is the latest enhancement to the original version, has there been anything else of major value/importance added since the first units came out?

I've had both and the newer unit seems a bit faster in operation with the MDI/SD card reader and displays a graphical transition when navigating through folders instead of saying 'processing...'.

The text resolution and general display seems a bit better too (less pixilated/squared off) but don't know if there's an actual difference or not.
