  • Fitting rear view camera (rvc) to golf gti mark 6 and recommended electrician

hi all, i've recently taken delivery of my golf gti and have been toying with the idea of fitting the rear view camera (rvc) to the rcd510 (without gps unit) - i know, i shouldve added to the options list however at the time, it wouldve delayed the car my another month or so.

the unit can be purchased online (i.e. kufatec), however im not game enough to install it myself.

can anyone recommend a reputable vw auto electrician to help me out? i live in sydney. thanks.

ps. looking to get the golf r led rear lights as well, so i wouldnt mind getting these installed when i get the RVC done.

I know Maverick (Brisbane) has installled an RVC to a Mark V, see: Installing a Golf Mark VI Rear View Camera (RVC) into a Golf Mark V | my-gti.com

I would also be interested to know if it is feasible to have it done in a Mark VI as the only GTI I can find that suits me does not have this nice piece of kit. Does anyone know the cost of parts? I have a feeling that the installation cost will be prohibitive even if the parts cost is not.

Can anyone who has an RVC fitted tell us how useful it is?

    Thanks.

I have OEM RVC fitted to mine.

Fantastic option. I also have park assist. I only ticked that box since it came with rear sensors, and front sensors.

Doing a good sensor fit (rear only) is costly, if you dont use OEM and you want it to function decently, you need to get canbus modules, or a towing harness and gain power from that (which would also have a canbus module).

Anyway, for the $1200 I think that it was, I received rear and front/side parking sensors. This in my case came with the "free" park assist feature. (ie it isnt free, but isnt really required in my application, as the sensors suffice)

      I digress...

The RVC is an absolute dream and a must for me. I use it to reverse down my laneway at night and using the front sensors I can swing the car around and into my garage without hitting the fence on the opposite side of the laneway (due to front sensors). Dark and narrow laneway, along with tinted windows makes reversing here a tad difficult. even worse in winter when its raining. The RVC makes it so much easier as the reverse light lights up the way...

I wasnt sold on the camera idea until my wife's Outback Diesel Premium/sat nav came with it. alone, it is somewhat useful, but having it with the reversing sensors makes parking and moving it so much easier. When I ordered my Golf, it was a must have. The dealer thought it odd that there were a few cars already on the way without sat nav and with RVC. They thought it'd be only something someone with teh RNS would want... Option was $500 above the cost of park assist. In my case that was $500 well spent.. The RNS was added later for around a grand....
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....
