  • mk1 golf amp install

Looking to set up some speakers and an amp in my MK1 golf. Just wondering whats the best way to connect the power cable from the amp (through the fire wall - where should the wire run?), the remote connection and also a grounding spot.

Looking to set up 2 6x9 speakers, connected to an amp.

    Thanks in advance.

power cable should run off the battery, through the firewall and down the drivers side of the car. the RCA cables run off the head unit, down the passenger side of the car. connet the negative of the amp to the body of the car. try to make the negative cable as short as possibe. remote connects to the remote wire of the head unit.
if you get engine noise through the speakers. use RCAs with a negative wire and ground them out aswell. engine noise is fairly common for older cars as the alternators werent designed for huge watted amps. (i get slight noise but i have 2 amps , 4 speakers, 2 subs and 3 screens and dvd player hahaha)

You should never run power cables down the drivers side.
Don't forget to use a fuse inline with the power wire, that being said, keep the fuse under 70amps. anything bigger in a mk1, you may as well not use one at all
