  • Need an answer about the firmware for RNS 510

    Hi All,
    I have a Golf MK6, 118 TSI comfortline with 7DSG. and the RNS-510

I bought the car seperatly and the dealer ordered the rns-510 and installed it.
I always felt these guys were a bit shady and I've no real way of working out if what I have is definatly an RNS-510.

    Questions:

    1) How do I absolutly know if I have an RNS-510 and that all its features are unlocked?

    2) I see there are firmwares up to 2200 and higher, but when I ask the dealer about it they look like I just asked them what the meaning of life was. They don't know.
What I want to know is "who is making these firmwares" and how "official" are they?
my SAT NAV works just fine as it is "i think 1100", but I'm somewhat afraid of bricking the unit in upgrading myself. I'm really upset that the dealers don't know how to upgrade to the latest firmware, because then at least I could blame any faults on them and not void my warranty.

Ok that was like 5 questions in one.

Hope you can help, thankyou in advance.

    David

    You're kidding right????

How do you know that you have a Golf Mark VI TSI with DSG?

The answers are in other threads on this forum. The firmware is from Volkswagen and they are official. They are not installed on cars in Australia and they are for newer models with features like start/stop.

For a start the head unit was fitted as a spare part so has 12 months warranty and why would the dealer take the risk of loading a firmware upgrade that is not intended for your car and risk bricking the head unit and being responsible for it? If you want the new features you have to accept the risk and do it yourself.
