  • Tried no success, please help

    Hi all,
New to this forum but not to posting topics.
I have tried again and again to get a straight answer from VW and I really just need someone out there to set the record straight.

    I have a golf mk6 118 TSI auto 7DSG 5 door with what I'm told is the RNS-510 with V2 maps.

When I test drove this golf in melbourne, the radio was displaying the name of the station AND the name of the song playing.

My one doesn't do that. Why???

I also can't get bluetooth audio to work even though all the options are selected. I can make and receive bluetooth phone calls in the car but can't stream music from my iphone 3gs. Note that I have the basic Bluetooth option car speaker system.

I would also LOVE to know about the latest firmware for the RNS-510. Are there different models of the RNS-510, because everywhere i look, peoples SAT navs seem to be capable of different things. Why are there only third party firmwares available??

A battle I have won recently was getting VW to replace the watercooler pump to get rid of that annoying squek on the mag clutch!

I have the dealer install the RNS-510 and I have no idea if I've been ripped off on an older model or some such. Any info would be stupendous!

    Cheers All,
    David

    Hi David,
it might help you get more responses if the name of your topic was more specific. Moving on, the RNS does have the ability to display song titles for radio stations if the transmitting station uses the Radio Data System (RDS). This is a parallel broadcast within the stations allocated frequency band that can carry some forms of basic data. It is why the preset buttons say Gold104 or Mix101 if you live in Melbourne instead of the plain 104.3 frequency display. It may be the station you were listening to did just that. I haven't found any stations outside of the capitals that use RDS so I wouldn't be surprised you get nothing in Mildura. I don't think you have been ripped off by VW or the dealer, it's because you live in the bush!

PS. Your basic Bluetooth won't stream bluetooth audio. The Fiscon Bluetooth can apparently, or maybe the late Skoda systems. Check the summary of Bluetooth options for more about this.

I have seen RCD310's display the song and artist data on the radio, but I've not seen it on a RNS510 video to date. Interested to see if the 510 does display this data or not.
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

        Hi David and welcome,
I don't specifically know the basic bluetooth for a Golf 6, but my Audi one does not support the audio / stereo transmission (A2DP), only mono phone connection.

The RCD-510 displays song info (Extras>Radio Text) but I haven't seen that function on the RNS
