Benefits of updated CD for MFD2 Navi?

I got a question regarding the MFD2 map CD/DVD for my newly purchased MY07 Passat. (picking up next week!)

I'm unsure what map version I have yet but let's just assume it is v12.
If so, what benefits would v16 give other than a few new streets?

Is it faster or would it have better graphics, features etc?
or is it just an updated map? If so, is it worth to get v16?

Also, is there some newer firmware update that should be had for MFD2?
