Installing headunit into MK4 (K-Line cable?)

Hey all, I thought I'd ask this question in a new thread, since my other thread (about harness adapters) wasn't getting any responses about my new question which is fair enough.

I'm wanting to install a JVC head unit I have lying around into my Golf quite soon, but have 3 queries before I begin.

you will need to cut your kline cable so your vagcom still works with the aftermarket deck as well.

1. Does anyone have any more info about the kline cable issue (as mentioned in the above quote) and what I need to do to with it?

2. Is there a wiring diagram for the standard headunit loom anywhere online? I have checked the MKIV FAQ DIY thread on the 'tex and couldn't find what I need. Either I'm blind or it's not there.

3. Has anyone got a tip to yank the stock head unit out? I haven't tried yet but I can see it uses a similar system to other modern(ish) cars with the 4 recessed holes. Is there some sort of home-made tool you can use to get in there?

get yourself a ISO Plug/Cable Loom as it will solve all your issues and questions! (about $25-40)

When you say ISO Plug/Cable Loom, do you mean a plug-and-play adapter that connects the aftermarket head unit to the VW stereo loom? In my other thread about harness adapters http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=30426 you mentioned I will still need to cut the kline cable though? I'm a bit confused, that's why I was just going to hard wire it, but if there is a plug-and-play solution I will definitely go for that.

Which factory stereo do you have now?

Mine had a dealer fitted Eurovox stacker with an adaptor in the loom already, not a K-Line lead in sight.

The eurovox came out easily with two pieces of coathanger jammed in the release holes.

If you get a correct iso plug for it you wont need to.

Some plugs you will find tho that the ACC Power and Constant will be to be swapped (by that a mean, connect acc/ign power from iso plug to constant on deck, and constant from loom to acc/ign on deck) as sometimes for some reason its wrong.

You shouldnt have any problems with the kline cable, it'll be in a "loop" on the back of the ISO plug.

I searched for ISO plugs for JVC on ebay and got these results,

Would they be suitable (once I find out if I need round or square pins)

I thought that they would have been model-specific, like I would have to find a plug to suit my Golf specifically. So is ISO a really general plug that works on lots of head units?

I'm being a real noob here, I know. I'm trying to read up on this ISO business but it's a bit techy for me.

ISO works on a lot of cars.

Ideally your car will have an ISO plug that logus directly into an ISO socket on the back of your radio.

In your case that's what you've got now.

What you're after is a lead with an ISO socket on one end and a plug to match your new stereo on the other.

I couldn't find one to suit my application ISO to Eclipse so I made one with an ISO socket I pulled out of an Audi at the wreckers and the wiring loom that came with the new stereo.

I use 4 small screwdrivers. One stuck in each corner hole. That releases the catch then pull the deck out with screwdrivers still stuck in.

I have the wiring diagram for Eurovox 4000 series units.

I think I have to swap the live and ignition live, anyone know what colours they are???

Fittid my JVC head unit, the ISO adaptor I bought was the wrong size so used the JVC supplied one and wired it to the adaptor.
Now I lose memory when I turn off so I am guessing no permanent live??
