I have had V2 in the RNS510 since April 2009, it hasn't had a problem in SEQ or northern NSW. The map data is a bit dated but it still works fine, just the newer roads since 2008 that are either grey and indicated as proposed roads or you just drive across paddock.

As to what they describe as corrupted it can mean different things. That said my dealer does not know anything about a VWA issued instruction as to it being corrupted. Perhaps some of the dealers on this forum may be able to add to this.

I would get onto VW Australia and see what they think of this procedure. Did you get any disc with the vehicle or just the software loaded.

I am running 2660 firmware upgrade and it is great. I don't have voice control as I didn't install bluetooth but the rest of the features as listed on mygti.com are there.

No! I did NOT get any disks at all, just software loaded. I just purchased this new car and it was a struggle with the dealer to work out why. I got some explanation about Map Version 2 disks being corrupted hence the dealer uninstalled Map Version 2 (which came with the new car from VW) and re-installed Map Version 1, which I understand is circa 2007! I have asked the dealer for MY disks but apparently the dealer only has one copy of Map Version 1 (bit odd really!). So I've asked again, this time specifying it's my right to have the disks. I think they will comply (I HOPE!) but it would be better if I didn’t have to fight for it.

Slightly off topic to start with. There have been a number of posts on this form regarding RNS510, servicing, warranty, price negotiations and promised delivery dates where some members have seen it as "dealer bashing"

Sometimes it may be deserved, sometimes not but the history of the RNS510 data DVD does tend to leave a pretty sour taste in the mouth. I am not pointing the finger at all dealers here but there does seem to be a widespread pattern that has emerged of the non supply of the RNS510 data DVD with new cars with factory fitted RNS510 and loaded maps, be it version 1 0r version 2.

Never have I seen a post on here about corrupted data DVD other than comments about the "Bermuda Triangle" north of Sydney near Gosford and this is more rightly described as data/program error rather than corruption.

I have however seen lots of non supply of data DVD posts. In my case a Passat CC purchased Nov 2009 came without maps.

It was only when I learned of firmware upgrades on this forum and when my unit would not read SDHC cards above 2Gb that I knew that I was "supposed" to have a DVD in my glovebox.

Other members of this forum, including Swallowtail, informed me that they had received the DVd in their glovebox.

I went to the dealer and said that my DVD was missing. I got the same "We only have one DVD at the dealership and this is loaded on to all cars and we upgrade your unit for free at service time if any upgrades come out.

Told them that others had received DVD but he stuck to his story.

Discussed with another dealer where I had purchased a Golf in July 2009 (without SatNav) and he told me that the map DVD should be supplied with the car. He informed me that they did not arrive at the dealers with the car but had to be "got" from Volkswagen Australia. He was not aware if there was a purchase cost to the dealer for the DVD. I had not told him I was having trouble getting my DVD from the dealer where I purchased the CC.

A few weeks later I booked my car into the local dealer for the firmware update after the service manager cofirmed that it could be done. Later they advised me it couldn't he done because there was a risk that the maps may have to be reinstalled and my navigation DVD wasn't in the glovebox.

Went back to dealer where I purchased the car and after a few heated words they gave me the dealerships "ONLY" copy of V2 of the navigation DVD.

Th DVD case was cracked and a bit battered but the DVD looked OK and I thought "Better than nothing" and left with the DVD.

The DVD case states "The parallel use of this software, database and map data stored on this data carrier is authorised for ONE NAVIGATION SYSTEM ONLY.

Grounds for some big software piracy signs if you ask me.

This forum is populated by VW enthusiasts or by people who are having trouble etc. I came across it by googling "Golf, TDI. DSG, problems or something very similar when we were deciding whether to buy a Golf MkV or wait for the MK VI.

There a probably a lot of RNS buyers out there in "Average Land" who will never know that they should have received data DVD unless at some time in there ownership it is required for some purpose.

But there are enough Non supply posts on this forum to make this a genuine issue of concern.

What possible reason could a dealer have to argue against the supply of the DVD? We can only guess at this. Maybe they have to pay Volkswagen Australia/Sensis for each copy of the DVD provided to the car owner and any copy not paid for is a little (or considerable) extra profit.

Or maybe the dealer can see some extra profit in ebaying sale of the data DVD to other RNS510 buyers looking for upgrades or needing software for overseas sourced new or second hand RNS510 units. $500 or $600 for YOUR data DVD.

Either way, the non supply of the DVD and the dealer denials that it should be supplied don't fill you with trust in the dealer(s) and can overflow into other issues such as service, warranty, delivery dates etc.

Before I am flamed by the dealer members on this site, I am not pointing the finger at any particular dealer as particular dealer members on this site have been helpful to me in solving this issue.

However, I can see a move where we may survey site members who have OEM RNS510 and draw up a dealership list where data DVDs have and have not been supplied and perhaps our dealer members may like to check their own dealership practice/policy and post it to this thread.

Has occured to me too that VW Australia, if this practice is widespread, should twig to the fact that they supplied a lot more OEM RNS510s than they have supplied data disks.

Maybe it is just confined to a small number of dealers but we have confirmed cases in NSW and WA at least.

Let's hope we can get to the bottom of it.

Have just read the preview post. So long it even bored me reading it but I do feel quite strongly on this issue.

I don't believe you would get a firmware data dvd only the maps dvd which is version 2 of a whereis 2007 map data. If I read highlander's post correctly you are talking about a firmware data disc as well as a maps disc.

If you didn't get a map dvd then I would be back to the dealer as one should be supplied with each vehicle that has RNS. If you retro fitted it then that may be another story.

As per 'coastie's post (extract below), I did NOT get the map data DVD, no disks at all. I have now insisted the dealer give them to me and am still waiting to see what happens. btw, my RNS510 is factory fitted, so have been told by others I should have been given the map data disks.

OK, back to the thread "RNS510 Map Version 2 Corrupted", does anyone else out there know about this "corruption" which my dealer is telling me about, as their reason why I only have Map Version 1?

Just my 2 cents....

I have 2 Mark 6 models.
Both have RNS510, one factory fit, the other dealer fit in Oz.

I received Version 2 DVD discs with both.

Austral in Brisbane just automatically gave me my DVD (factory fitted RNS510).
Ian Boettcher Motors gave me my copy a few days after delivery when asked.

In both cases, no issue from the dealers at all.

Then Coastie gave me a disc to upgrade the firmware to 2660, & it works perfectly on both.

I just have to get the VW mic installed, so that I can use the Voice Control features.

On topic, I have 2, both with version 2 Maps, & niether of them have any issues with map "corruption".

The fact that you had good success, not only getting both DVDs for both units but also getting Map Version 2 (which works well for you), is making me wonder:

Why I don't have my DVD and, more importantly,
Why the dealer has withheld them from me and also used some 'corruption' issue as the reason.

I don't want to be too naive, nor do I want to bag my dealer without knowing the facts, but could my dealer be giving me the "short shrift"! Or maybe someone else (i.e. VW Australia) has told my dealer a porky or two and they've just passed on the yarn to me. Either way, I'm the loser as I don't have my map DVD or Map Version 2 installed.

btw, just this morning, on the way to work, the Sat. Nav. thought I'd left the (new) freeway, because it was not on my maps, so tried re-routing me elsewhere - a very annoying consequence of very old map data!

Has anyone else out there heard about this "Map Version 2 Corruption" issue, told to me by my dealer as their excuse for not given me Map Version 2?

As advised by our Volkswagen Service Centre, we have not been supplying CD's with vehicles due to a particular issue with the V2 CD, we have been installing V1 off a CD held at our service centre, this is carried out during the pre delivery preparation of new vehicles. We have not experienced any operational issues with this and have not been advised of any updates apart from the impending V3."

I'm confused!!

1. Is there a cost to the dealer is obtaining the DVD from VWA.

2. Are VWA and dealerships not concerned with the single user licence condition that is on the V2 Maps DVD case.

3. retail price of a V2 map DVD via spare parts.

Mmmmm, maybe there are some sensitive issues here which I am either too naive to see or just not aware off. Either way, the whole process of:

...is still not that clear for me.

I'd find it hard to believe if I were the only person confused and wanting to know the correct answers to this. Therefore, does anyone know the answer, preferably not guess work? If so, please share with all of us via this post.

Also, IMO, there should'nt be any need to private message answers to these questions, unless there's some cover up?!?

Error Message?

Has anyone seen the following error message when using the RNS510 Sat. Nav?

"No Route Recommendations for this Destination"

To create error:

I select new destination (Ok so far).
I can see the three routes displayed on the screen, so the RNS510 has actually found the routes (good, Ok so far).
Three route options pop up for selection (Ok so far).
I select route option 1 (fastest route), it tries to do something, then poooffff... up pops this error message!!! (same happens if I select route option 2 or 3)
The only option then is to click OK, then the route disappears and I have no navigation, just normal map view!

I'm using RNS510 with the current Maps Version 2 data. This error only happens every now and then, i.e. it does not happen all the time. BUT, when it happens, there's nothing I can do but listen to my music. When I try later, then it's OK.

I have seen exactly that situation, but again only rarely. If you drive perhaps 1 km and try again it usually works. Annoying, but not life threatening.
