  • Problem with RNS 510 upgrade

    Hi

    Just upgraded from an RCN 510 to the RNS 510. All working fine except I've lost the ability to use the steering wheel to advance tracks on CD's & other media.
    I have the latest firmware (2660).
    Appreciate any insights or ideas
    Thanks

    Same problem i've got after upgrading to 268x, due to 268x being a factory build it wipes all settings (refered to as coding) from the car system, this means the RNS 510 no longer knows how to communicate with your MFD (the display between the taco/speed) or use steering wheel buttons.

    The 266x update is that, an update. So it simply keeps your settings and apply's the new firmware ontop.

    To correct you must have a vagcom/vcds cable and re-code the settings on your car so they RNS 510 can receive the correct settings from the car and know how to use the MFD/steering wheel buttons.

    Someone responded to the upgrade thread on my-gti.com about the correct coding the fix the MFD(otherwise known as Maxidot) and MFSW (Multifunction SteeringWheel) buttons and they are both fixed with the following apparently

    - Using Vagcom/VCDS -> 37–Navigation -> go into 07-Coding -> Long Coding Helper -> and tick off the box with CAN-BAP Protocol

    Also the vagcom interface is located in the driver side foot wheel so no removal of anything is required.

    Now my problem is trying to find someone with a vagcom in Melbourne to help me re-code

    Hope this helps!

      The RNS 510 needs to be coded to your car using VCDS. There's a guide on my website on how to do this.

        Terrific - took the car to my installer, followed the instructions and its all fixed! Much appreciated.
        The other thing I noticed happened after the change is the that I now have the compass indicators in the MFD whereas before I didn't. Another plus.
