  • Bluetooth choice: nightmare !

    Hi all,
I have spent couple days reading all sorts of info on the available bluetooth kits for the Golf MK6 I will order. I am still unsure which way I should approach it. I would really appreciate the feedback of people who went down this path.
Basically, I can't pick between the 4 options listed on the post : http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=31461

    1. VW Basic unit
    2. FISCON Basic Plus
    3. Skoda 9W3
    4. VW Premium Kit

    Here are my questions/thoughts:
    1. it's not an option for me as it does not display the phonebook on the MFD

    2. this looks like the best value for money. My only issue is: would a VW dealer order & install it for me? Or would the dealer install it if I supply it? Would my warranty be voided if I get it installed by a third party? If not, who would you recommend?

    3. Not an option for me.

    4. sounds good BUT expensive AND I read a lot of comments from people having issues with pairing as it requires rSAP. I don't want to spend $2000 and find out I can't use it! Also, can more than one phone be used at once? It needs to work with my HTC Touch Diamond 2 and my wife's iPhone 3G.

WHICH OPTION SHOULD I CHOOSE? Has any one been down this road too? Any feedback on either 1,2 or 4?

Thanks a lot for your great help !

Fiscon is a good unit, and available from several installers in NSW. You shouldn't have any warranty issues with having it installed aftermarket, as long as it's done properly. They'll need to code the car to know that it is fitted.

Just had the Skoda unit, along with the RNS 510, installed yesterday and so far it works really well. You say its not an option for you - can you say why? Have not tried pairing a second phone to it as yet but will do today and let you know. Works fine so far with my iPhone 3GS and has all numbers available on the MFD as well as the main screen..
      Cheers

      P.S.
Just tested a second phone and it works fine. My installer says that you can add up to 4. If 2 paired phones in the car ay the same time, defaults to the last one used...

It looks like the Skoda unit is harder to install. It is bigger as well and need to be fitted under the seat. It also doesn't have A2DP...

What about the dash unit BT option

Anyone know what the new bluetooth option is like below? I am thinking of getting this fitted by VW shortly. Was quoted $995 installed.

I've seen that in pictures from overseas... I didn't know they were offering it here now also.

I reckon it's nuts - why would you want ANOTHER screen of visual data, when the stereo that comes in the cars has capability to provide exactly that - dial pad, address book, incoming call details, etc - AND the MFD can also display all that information also??

That's the beauty of the Kufatec and Skoda units - they interface with existing systems that come already built in to the car, and don't add extra ugly 'bits' tacked on to your dashboard...

            Just my 2c.

              +1 for the skoda here.

              I love mine.

You did not say what radio you have in the car?

Why do you need a2dp ?

Second that - a2dp is crap... I had it on the Kufatec Fiscon BT I had before the Skoda kit, and it was truly woefully bad.

I currently have a2dp in our other car. JVC head unit and it is great. I won't be installing a bluetooth unit that does not have this feature. Get your point about crap on the dash tough. I may just go for the basic unit as seeing the calling details is not really a priority for me.

I haven't got the car yet ! I'm looking at getting the BT kit installed by the dealer. I have been told by advancedice.com.au that VW dealers would sell/install the FISCON.

I really prefer to have everything fitted by the dealer.

Would you know if the SKODA unit is also sold/installed by VW dealers ?

Anyone has an idea of pricing for both units?

Skoda kit is superb works and interfaces just how it should.

+2, A2DP is crap and don't see why people are hellbent on it. Just another useless technology that doesn't sound as good as a cabled connection as well as draining your phones battery.

My question about A2DP purely comes from why bother

If you said you had the RNS510 i would say there are 4 options i would
used to play music before i would use A2DP

                        1. Copy to HDD
                        2. MDI
                        3. SD card
                        4. DVD

option 1 give you about 20gb of music
option 2 gives you 500gb + is using USB HDD or any ipod capacity if using an iPod device
                        option 3 gives you 32gb
option 4 gives you 8gb with DL disc

if you used A2DP for music i assume you would need to have a phone
                        charger as well.

Yeah, all of those options are better than A2DP and most phones wouldn't have more than 8-16GB of capacity.

The MDI is well worth it IMO (especially if you use an ipod). I've copied some MP3 albums on the HDD but it takes a lot longer copying from the SD/DVD than plugging in an ipod (and sync with itunes is fast too).

Given also that most Bluetooth setups route phone audio to front speakers only, doesn't A2DP do the same? It did on my Fiscon...

I have had both a 1 and a 4. The VW Basic unit was installed by my dealer at delivery, but basically did nothing other than answer calls, not what I was promised. No real interaction at all with the RNS510. The dealer then installed the VW Premium.

I am about to rip it out and replace it with a Fiscon Basic Plus (3 above). I have spent 3 months now trying every trick I could find to get the VW Premium to work with exactly the same phone as you, a HTC Touch Diamond 2. Bottom line is it doesn't! My profession is IT, I know how these things work ... and this combination just doesn't!

It will also certainly not work with the iPhone. The VW Premium unit requires the phone to support RSAP, iPhones don't and the HTC implementation is broken on the Touch Diamond 2 at least, if not on all WM6.5 phones.

I am pretty certain the Fiscon is going to work fine, it certainly has been reported as doing so by other Touch Diamond 2 owners.

If you are desperate to try the VW Premium reply to this thread, you can have mine for $600 and I'll freight it to you for nothing!
