MkVI golf after market mdi

I'd like to connect a usb drive to the car for music. I've been quoted around $900 from the dealer to get an mdi installed.

Is it possible for me to get the parts and install it myself? How difficult is it? Where can I buy the parts from?

I got the MDI with the iphone cable installed at the dealer for $550 or so.

I think it's cheaper if you get a USB cable too, so $900 is waaaayyy too much.
