  • MDI interface question

    Hi,

I have a Sep 2009 Passat and am getting an RNS510, MDI (with iPod cable) and a Skoda BT kit installed tomorrow at Volkspower.

My question is in regard to connecting an iPod to the MDI cable located in the glovebox.

Is it OK to leave the iPod permanently connected?

I am worried about the iPod overheating during summer, maybe going flat (does the MDI stop charging and turn off when the car is turned off?).

It would be a real pain if I have to constantly plug/unplug the iPod when the car is turned off.

    Thanks,
    Geoff.

    Hi Geoff
I have a factory fitted Ipod media in device fitted and when you remove the key it definetely disconnects the power from the Ipod. There should be no problem leaving it connected.

      Gday Graeme,

      Thanks for that.

Does the Ipod turn on and off via the MDI - i.e. it doesn't stay on all the time, go flat, overheat, etc?

I have not left it connected in the glovebox for any length of time but the fact that the power is disconnected I see no problems in leaving it connected

I have heard stories of the MDI keeping on charging with ignition off... so I would check. I'll double check mine later on today.

GraemeI - is yours an ipod adapter or an MDI? They are two very different beasts...
