  • Zenec ZE-NC2010

    Hi guys,

I am looking at getting the Zenec ZE-NC2010 for the Tiguan when she arrives.
Essentially a RNS-510 clone with nice extra's (blutooth, ipod and usb connection etc.)

The website only states map support for the EU, so i was wondering if anyone had used a Zenec navi product in Australia and knows if Aus-spec maps are available.

I believe it uses Windows CE and Igo8 software for navigation if that helps.

    Cheers

I haven't got the Tig yet unfortunately.
Job security meant i had to put off the purchase until 2010.

I will be getting the Zenec unit for it though adn will do a review of the unit and it's installation/performance when i get it.

There is a review for a golf in USA i believe however i dont' know of any Australian installed review yet.

Sorry i can't be of any more help.

i did some research in to this before settling on the rns. it seems that if you install the zenec you lose the optical parking sensors as well as the dynaudio setup (if you have one) Hope that helps.

            Thanks for the info.

I am not getting the optical parking sensors nor the dynaudio so i think this will be okay for me.

you may have already tried this...have you contacted the supplier? If they say yep no probs, ask for details on how and how or some kind of evidence that they are not saying yes just to sell a unit. Good luck...

Tried every contact email and phone number on their website and there is no response.
Doesn't help that they are in EU which makes the timing fun for contact via phone.

I saw the unit's on other websites but no one has any extra info apart from what is on the Zenec site.

Might have to just give it a whirl and see, if all else fails, i could just work out how to crack it and put the maps on anyway i guess.

There are plenty of other units running IGO 8 AUS maps so don't see the drama.

I'd still try and get an answer out of them before ordering as i understand it's not the cheapest unit and you'd want the AUS maps preloaded or disc at least.

That's just what i wanted to hear.
If other satnav's use IGO8 and run Aus maps then I should be able to get it on the Zenec.

Will still try to contact them and work out if they can be provided with the unit upon purchase.
Might have to stay up late or wake up early to get the phone call connected during their office hours.

All those Waywell units do (W6050 etc, which run win CE) and so does the Eclipse unit but that may have it's own OS but there are maps available.

Surely you can specify what country maps you want when placing the order if they aren't smart enough to determine it from your delivery address.

if i remember correctly on one of the golf forums, someone did ask zenec about the unit & ? australian maps & he was told by the company that they do not install australian maps on the unit. From memory it is a proprietary os rather than a win ce os like the others taht allow any nav software to be installed.. Have a look at the eclipse btw, seems to have good reviews except i think it's screen resolution is rather 'lowish'

Wrt all the chinese units, they seem to have one problem or the other with no backup support. In theory though if you have enough support that can become a great piece of software...look at www.xda-developers.com for example but no such things exist.

In fact it is surprising that no one has taken these nav units apart & reverse engineer it like the ppcs have been

Back to sat navs though, one other worthy unit to consider was the pioneer f10bt. It comes with good maps as well as speed cams etcetc & wait for it.....traffic info! Bad thing about it is it doesn;t do voice control ( the uk & us ones do but in the true spirit of Australian electronics pioneer decided that we don't need it!) Good luck trying to put australian maps on a uk unit as well...as far as i know...not possible....

I sent an e-mail to Zenec about this and they sent me a link to NaviExtras who provide the maps for their units and unfortunately they don't seem to have maps for Australia.
