  • RNS 510 in 2010 models

Can someone confirm or deny that a 4GB SDHC card will work in a 2010 model RNS 510?

  • #2
    SDHC Cards

My manual for the RNS510 says

"Memory Card Slot - The slot accepts cards with the dimensions 32mm x 24mm x 2.1mm. The unit supports SD and MMC memory cards with a capacity of up to 2GB and SDHC cards with a capacity of up to 32GB"

Still have to purchase an SDHC card and see if it works but until then I will have to trust the manual.
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.

I've successfully tested an 8gb microsd in a sdhc holder on my RNS-510 hw 02 and FW 2660

1200 Firmware with mk6 rns510 b unit fails with 16gb SDHC, also pressing "i" button doesn't initialize voice controls but I have a mic installed for dealer fitted bluetooth option

any ideas for either of these issues?

To OP - Not sure, try it and see! If it doesn't then the unit can be firmware upgraded to support them anyway. I am using a 32GB SDHC in my 09 RNS510 that is running firmware 2660.

To Alexmk6gti - 1200 firmware doesn't do voice control. How do you know you have 1200? "i" button just does nav repeat I think from memory? If it IS 1200, it should read the 16GB card though. Make sure it's FAT32 formatted and that there are some MP3s on it.

1200 firmware is not upgrading all units to SDHC support whereas 2660 firmware is.

Seems that some hardware revisions are not working with 1200. I don't suppose you have you HW : xx number from the top of the unit or out of VCDS?

I just upgraded the firmware today to 2660 (i was under the impression that 1200 was newer since it had the newer release date on my-gti.com).

Pressing the 'i' button still gives me nav instructions and pressing the 'mic' looking button on the steering wheel simply mutes the audio.

I haven't tested my 16gb SDHC card since the update.

Also is there a way to remove the region lock for DVD's - I believe because I've used the EU update it's now blocked region 4 DVD's - And i assume since a firmware update did this that a config file change on the update disk may be able to change that back? I know it's possible to do with a cable and ripping the headunit out but i'd rather not a)buy the cable b) take the unit out.

btw this is a Mk6 GTI with a factory fitted RNS510 (so I assume it should be the latest hardware spec)

The follow info was pulled from the test menu under 'version info' (probably an overkill with info but here it is..)

the i and mic buttons will continue to do that until you tell the RNS to enable voice control using VAGCOM. http://www.my-gti.com/1234/volkswage...-voice-control

1200 is the release that doesn't include all the new features of the 2660 release. This is for older hardware versions and includes the 32GB SDHC support and poi photos.

You can't make the unit region free, you can however set it to a region. You have to use vagcom/vcds to do this.

Changing the Region Code on the Volkswagen RNS 510

2660 should operate fine with your unit as it's a revision C.

My 16GB sdhc works now after the 2660 update
I'll look into purchasing the VAGCOM cable to enable australian DVD region and voice recognition.

                      32gb sdhc

I have a MY2010 model but it does not read the 32GB SDHC although the manual says it is supported.

Do you think I would be having the old firmware?

Is it easy to upgrade the firmware or do I take it to the dealer?

                      Thanks

I think the firmware that does read 32GB cards has been officially released now... you've got nothing to lose by asking the dealer... I'd do that first.
