Bluetooth Options

Hi Guys,

I know there are a heap of threads about bluetooth installs (I've read the sticky as well) but hoping someone can offer some advice.

I'd like to get basic bluetooth setup for my rcd300 (or MFD2 if I can pick one up). Essentially I don't need anything fancy, just something that works with the phone button on the steering wheel. Can anybody recommend the cheapest install that integrates with the steering wheel button?

Has anybody used this or currently have installed in their VW?
I've used the same kit in a work car and it works really well, I'm assuming the only difference for the VW is the addition of the steering wheel harness.

I've done a bit more searching around and came up with the following. Its taken awhile because info is scattered around everywhere on the web.

For the basic bluetooth handsfree which integrates into the steering wheel control you need the Parrot CK3000 (newer parrot units look like they work as well), VW steering wheel control box and the wiring harness to join it all together.

The QCVWS-3 package by QuickConnect.com bundles all of this together for $290 US.



I'll probably end up ordering one from quickconnect and see how it goes.

Hopefully getting this installed along with my MFD2 + Ipod Cable this week so I'll post a few pics of the harness etc before it goes in.

I had the bluetooth installed yesterday along with an MFD2 Sat Nav unit and an ipod cable.

For the bluetooth install the quick connect harness plugs into the back of the head unit, connects to the existing wiring and then plugs into the VW steering wheel control box.

The parrot 'blue' box simply plugs into the wiring on the quick connect harness. Its all pretty easy and it works very well. Call quality is exceptional. The voice dialing kind of works with the iPhone but not quite. It dials your last dialed number but doesn't give you the voice prompt. I'm going to try it with my Nokia E65 or a E61 and see if it works a bit better.

Here are a few pics of the unit




The phone pairs within 10 seconds once the car has started. Which is faster than the CK3100 I've used in a work car.

Overall, very happy with the purchase and install.
Too many times I've had the phone ring and had to pull over, its great not having to worry about that now.


And I found a little surprise in the MFD for the sat nav component. When the sat nav is running it integrates into the MFD and provides distance, direction, street name and direction indicators. I wasn't expecting it...lol I thought you had to have a special MFD for that. I'll take a photo tomorrow.
