Re the twisted pair, I wonder if a higher spec twisted pair would be OK? Like Cat5 is 13mm twist, Cat6 is 10mm....

Not sure that I'm going to be pulling the unit apart though... carsystems have it stickered for their warranty, so I think I wan to to confirm that it works at all before I pull it apart.

Have you got the part numbers for the CAN bus cable and cloth tape?
Whooops I thought it was on the CAN bus wiring page, just updated it to include them.

      000 979 987 (000979987) - CAN cable (10M)

      000 979 950 (000979950) - Webbing Adhesive (10M) - used to cover the wiring loom after repair

Cool. Thanks... I've ordered those. When it all arrives I'll do up a new harness I suspect, and just use the quadlocks etc on the harness from carsystems in Poland. I'll run a 4 core shielded for the L/R +/- audio (even though only one channel will be connected at the BT end for now), a new UTP can bus, retain the existing 12V +/- cable run, and I'm running a new mic cable as well, probably with 2 core shielded.

With the audio I'd be inclined to use the spare mute or k line cable to give you your stereo sound. Means you only need to run the canbus and replace the existing wire.

As for that tubing I'd give it the flick and wrap the loom with the tape, it looks oem, doesn't take up a lot of room, doesn't make any noises and is much easier to route around the dash. It does get addictive however and you start wrapping all your wiring!

The only cables running up that harness from carsystems are: Canbus pair, power 12v pair, and telephone +/- pair. There are no mute / k-line cables run up the harness.

So I need to run extras to allow for stereo audio, even if one channel is not connected yet. If I'm going to do that, it makes sense (to me at least LOL) to run all the audio together in a new 4 core shielded... add a 2 core from the mic out on the RNS510 to the mic in on the BT, and run the new UTP canbus cable. So the only cables I will retain from the original harness are the 12V +/-.

I could use the old straight cables currently used for canbus for the other audio channel, but for ease of recognition I think i'd like to get rid of those colours entirely and keep all the audio together.

I've ordered some of the tape as well.

Would stereo improve the sound quality of the woman's voice as it could be a bit better compared to cd/radio quality?

                No idea...

I fixed up all the wiring today - new proper CAN bus cable, 4 core cable run for stereo audio (although not connected at the Bluetooth end), 2 core for the mic from RNS510 to Bluetooth.

Now all I gotta do is get time to get it in and try it...
