  • Anyone use Alpine IDA X-305?

Hi there, I just brought a Alpine IDA-X305 ipod/iphone head unit,
I have a problem connect the unit to my ipod mini 6GB (the software version is 1.4.1)

also i have a portable USB hard drive, and it also couldn't connect to my Alpine head unit, is there any thing i need to take care before i use my ipod and portable hard drive to work with the unit?

but my USB flash drive can work with the unit, but why i can't use my portable hard disk work with it?

every time i connect to the unit it said "NO USB device" or " USB device error"

Can anyone help me to solve this 2 problems?

    thx alot!!

Are you using the correct cable?

Just ask the place you got if from or have a look ask on mobileelectronics.com.au. Those guys would be able to help you out.

The hard disk requires more power to start up/operate than the flash drive.

You could try a sata 2.5" drive as they are more power efficient than a pata 2.5" or most drives allow you to supply power separately which you can do from the power socket.

VW's MDI for example is designed to operate hard drives but many of these interfaces are not.

Don't know about the iPod but for the hard disk my IDA-X100 required a FAT32 file system (no NTFS support). So I had to find a tool that could format FAT32 partitions > 32GB.

Does it give you any error messages? Does anything come up on the screen of the ipod?

I've run new and old ipods on my alpine head-unit and they all seem to work..

Hard drive has been covered by the lack of power issue as Maverick said.
