  • New Version WD6050 Battery Drain?

I've been looking at this forum and MkV forum regarding the Waywell WD6050 unit and is led to believe that there is a new version out - apparently a gen 4 model with the USB input from the rear. Supposedly new and improved and has MFD integration - like you can see song tracks, radio, etc...

Before I place an order, just wondering if any of you guys bought this unit and is it fully integrated with the steering wheel buttons and most importantly any snags like draining the battery if you haven't used the car for a couple of days? It also is rumoured that the unit does not switch off with ignition and needs to be switched off at the button?

Any comments on the newest WD6050 would be very much appreciated.

By the way, where are people getting their WD6050s? Direct from Waywell or this dude Oscar from the States?

My advice would be to wait, it seems that each "new" version that comes out more bugs are introduced as you can see from the golfmkv thread. Oskar in the states seems to be pretty good to deal with whereas dealing direct is a bit risky especially with returns/support.

Thanks for that benno. I've heard all sorts of good things regarding dealing with Oskar. Have you needed his support and do you get support from him? What sort of price did you manage to get buying from Oskar if you don't mind sharing?

Looks like the camera issue has been sorted (see the MkV forum).

I have a WD6050 unit (3 gen unit) which has started playing up... so I am sending it back to Oscar for a fix.

So, do I take it that the newest version has the rear camera issue sorted?

Has anyone ever checked the battery drain problem? I know that most of you use your car at least twice a week so no problem with excessive drainage, but any of you actually measured the battery current with factory RCD500 vs the newest release WD6050 and does it drain anymore than stock HU?

                  Battery drain is real

Hi I have a new AVC 9000-1 / Waywell - huge issue with battery drain if I leave the TSI for 5 days - dealer has had it for week and is at a loss saying the VW multiplexer (?) keeps searching for the VW radio and the multiplexer will not turn off as it cannot find a VW radio - anyway they measure the drain an 1 amp - but they do seem inexperienced - have you heard what the solution is ? thanks in anticipation

The dealer can't fix the problem, the problem is with the installation of the unit or the unit itself.

The car sends a signal over the CAN bus for the headunit to switch off. The headunit is not switching off. Either the problem is the headunit or the headunit's wiring.

Take it back to the company that installed it. The dealer has no way of sorting out the problem.
