Once you take out the long, thin trim piece, you can basically run the cable directly down behind the console and out near the gearstick area. You then keep it tucked up in there there's a deliberate opening in the carpet there, which is where you feed it in and it comes out down in the two cut out bits of carpet you'll find under the drivers seat.

When I did it properly the 2nd time around, there's actually slack in the cable, so it's definitely long enough.
thanks pepe... So the opening in the carpet the routes to under the drivers seat is large enough for the bluetooth module connector to fit through? What model car did you do this in? I need to install in a mkv golf...

    • Mine's a Mk6 R.

I don't know about in the Mk5, but in the Mk6, there's holes cut in the carpet down there that are the perfect size for the connectors to fit through (the holes are just cut, they don't remove the carpet from them). I can only assume they are for BT fitment, as they are exactly where they need to be.

Photos of the long trim piece would be good so I know which bits you are talking about. Also of the hole etc near the gearstick. When you feed down under the carpet to the cutouts under the seat, were you able to easily slide the cable through or did you have to remove other trim to get your hands under the carpet to pull it through or alternatively poke some stiff wire through to drag the cable through ?

        • hi, i'm now considering the under driver seat install. I've got a 1z0 035 729 b as it's for a mkv golf with red mfd.

is the bracket part number any of the following or something else?
          1Z0 035 815
          1K0 919 737M

          will the cover 1Z0 971 813 62u fit?

          Thanks!!!

Mate - look a few pages back in this thread for the bracket we'e been describing that cost us about $27 from VW Dealers in Oz. At the end of the day, it's a lump of foam with 4 bits of velcro stuck on it to secure it to the carpet. From what I understand, the "b" Bluetooth unit is in the same size/shape casing as our "c" 9w7, so the bracket should fit fine. Just get the partnumber a few pages back.

Yep, I concur with that, everything I've seen on the net shows the 9W3 kit you have should fit that foam bracket.

Thanks guys...I was getting a bit confused as some install guides showed a metal bracket.

                • I have my car booked in at Barloworld Glen Waverley to have the Bluetooth and RNS510 installed.

I will let you know how it all goes.

Is there anything I should stress to the service department?

                  - Making sure the RNS510 directions are shown on the MFD?
                  - Making sure the streering wheel controls work on the RNS510?
                  - Making sure that the bluetooth menu is displayed on the RNS510?
                  - Making sure that the bluetooth menu is displayed on the MFD?
                  - Making sure that the Climatronic settings are displayed on the RNS510 screen when you change temp's and different air direction?

OPS if you have parking sensors (no idea if it's possible to do this, just speculating)
Audio screen shows on MFD with info from the RNS

Other than that, can't think of any others, your list is pretty comprehensive.

Ahh thanks for that. Reversing Camera is also something else I need to stress to them.

I am sure they wont be THAT incompetent, but you never know...

                      • Car had its first service today and the dealer had no issues coding my bluetooth kit. Cost $60 to code and test... works an absolute treat. I love being able to mess with the settings which is something you can't do if you don't get the coding.

                        • Peteaussi - which dealer did you go to? I'd love to get the coding myself.

I can fiddle with SOME settings using the RNS, but it sounds like there are more?

I went to Osbourne Park VW which is where I bought my car. I was having it's 7500km service so asked if they'd do it and it appeared as if they did that type of thing pretty regularly as they could give me a price straight away and didn't ask any questions. Some of the settings you can access only through the MFD are:
                            - Changing ringtones
                            - Changing the name of your device
                            - Uploading a new phonebook and changing whether or not it reads first name, last name, or vice versa. I have my phone set as first, last and as stock my RCD phonebook was coming up as last, first so this is something I like a lot.
                            - Change bluetooth settings - Visibility, which devices are paired, etc.
                            - Go through the phonebook on the MFD
                            - Input a number to dial from your steering wheel
                            Etc etc.

                            Cheers,

Sounds worthwhile - will definitely ask them about it. I hope John Huges can do the same (bit closer to home). Funny you should mention the ringtone - since upgrading the phone software, the car rings with the same ringtone as the mobile (iPhone 3GS with iOS4.1)

                              • The car was dropped off this morning to have the Bluetooth and Sat Nav installed. I will let everyone know tonight how it went.

Fingers crossed I don't need to go back to the dealer to get anything else done which they happen to forget...

I did stress to them that if they had to ask any questions, to call me at anytime, so we will go from there.
