WD6050 vs AVC9000-1 which one is better? or is there a better choice?

Hi just looking a buying a gps for my mk5 gti and just wondering which unit out there at the moment is the best one to buy?

Is there any other ones that i should consider which are newer and better?

which one looks closest to the origanal one that is supplies by vw?

I've been investigating this quite extensively and have to agree, but only if your budget allows for it. The fact that it integrates so seamlessly with the marking sensors, MFD, uses the rear wheel ABS to compensate for a loss of GPS signal so you don't get lost in tunnels, etc cannot be looked over. But neither can the price tag.

If it's just a choice between the 2 you mentioned, I would go for the WD6050 as it seems to have a more consistent and cleaner interface. It's a real pity the AVC9000 has such different interfaces between radio, DVD/CD, satnav, etc. At the end of the day they'll both run Tomtom and iGo though, which are great satnavs.

I have also investigated the CarPC option which seemed very attractive as a DIY project, but when you add the cost of teh equipment together it's only really practical if you already have the hardware, or if you are an enthusiast looking for a challenge. The Centrafuse interface is nice, but the Destinator satnav engine it uses doesn't measure up to Tomtom IMO. What is nice with it tho is you can customise it to your hearts content and integrate it with your vehicle via the ODBII plugin/cable. Of course, get yourself a VAGCOM cable and you can use the always-on-bard carPC for on the run diagnostics and monitoring.

I'd agree out of those two choices i'd go for the WD6050, but you'd have to live with any annoyances if it wasn't perfect although not everyone is as fussy as i am.

Thanks for your reply's . I have been looking for about a week now and most of the threads are about the wd6050. I have mixed feelings about this unit.

Does anyone know anything about these other brands? or is there any others that you recommend that's aren't going to break the budget?

the wd7050 is manufactured by a different company then the wd6050. So im not sure if the wd7050 is going to perform as well as the wd6050. does anyone have any feed back regarding the wd7050 unit?
