I am curious to read of effective solutions apart from the VW generic. I am keen to be able to use the ipod's controls as have over 2500 songs. Melbourne based Golf V GT Sport TDI DSG

Northfield Car Sound install an aux input for a quoted $260. Not sure if Northfield is Brisbane only though...2002 Volkswagen Bora V5 - 2007 Mazda 3 GT - 1998 Ford Contour Sport - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T - 2013 Volkswagen Passat 130TDI - 2015 Ford Escape 1.5 - 2016 Subaru WRX - 2018 Volkswagen Golf R Wolfsburg Wagon

I actually don't know.. I just rocked up there once and asked them what was available for a MY08 Jetta with a standard Head unit and he gave me either the iPod or the Aux (both through glove box).. I'd rather the aux because you've got more options.
But remember - $260 is what they quoted. It shouldn't change but it might.
Good luck!2002 Volkswagen Bora V5 - 2007 Mazda 3 GT - 1998 Ford Contour Sport - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T - 2013 Volkswagen Passat 130TDI - 2015 Ford Escape 1.5 - 2016 Subaru WRX - 2018 Volkswagen Golf R Wolfsburg Wagon

I recently purchased a Grom audio ipod interface for my mk5 and installed it myself. Whilst the ipod was definitely registering the connection through the usb the head unit barely played the music and when it did it was around 5 seconds per song.
I ended up returning it although the postage cost both ways almost cost as much as the unit itself, definitely wouldn't recomend the Grom audio.
