Yeah I prefer the IDQ probably to the IDMAX. IDMAX needs a crap load of power to get moving. V3 are very nice, lots of low low excursion for a mid range SQ woofer. You looking at an 8 or 10inch?

Perhaps you could try running ambients tweeters in the pillars and the main tweeters in the kicks? Go ID Splits ( can you tell I'm not a fan of Alpines speakers... bring back the old school DD Linear!! ).

I honest do not know how you find the time to do half the installs, I get the shyts after 2 hours generally. Whats going on over there, we have been lucky to hit 25 here, I want summer to turn up but I think it has already past...

        funnily enough, I had a USAMPS XT800.4,
        Specs 60wrms x 4 @ 4ohm, 250 - 300wrms x 2 @4Ohm.
This amped ran beautifully for around 6 months like that, till it got some 12V + voltage spike on the inputs and blew 3 tracks. Still have not figured out how that happens. Lol, you live and learn.

Now I know this thing is not 2ohm stable in bridged mode. But seriously I had that controlling the IDMAX 10.
        Boy that sound F&***&^%^N amazing.

I'll be running 10" single anyway. I'm only using the alpine type S (I had them laying around), as no good speakers are really available now at realistic money, everything is way overpriced with the crappy exchange rate.
I might try some Rainbow SLC265. Allot of people rate them pretty highly.

Yeah if only I can find a set of DD Linear's I would be all over them, Something like the DDS-F17A's. Those sounded awesome. But uber hard to track down.

I might use my set of MB Quartz 325.02CX(5"mid-bass,4"mid,1"tweeter), 3 way components.

If I go the MB Quartz, then I’ll replace the 5" mid with a 6-7" mid.
These MB's are actually a 4ohm set, how strange usually always 6ohm,
As I just about swapped my friend for his 6" MB Mid-bass, then found the 6ohm issue. Bugger. Still not 100% sure what I’m doing about the front stage as yet. Might still run 2 to 3 amps for the front stage.

As for running the ambient tweeters and the tweeters in kick panel. I'll have to play with that to be honest. There is not much room under the dash their on the side of the kick panel. But there is enough room to mount 4" mid down there. I should be able to fit a tweeter down there too.

Doing the two tweeters would not be half bad. If I had a small enough silk tweeter I could mount up high than do the metal dome tweeter down low.

However if I mount the silk down the bottom for volume I could use the metal dome up top to give me the definition?

Yeah I know, I have been watching prices here go up and up on things as well putting what was once a really good system costing 25% more.

Never played with ambient tweeters however in the most successful front stage I have seen he had:
          - Morel 9inch mounted in the doors
          - Morel 4inch mounted high in the kicks
          - Morel Supremo mounted low in the kicks
          - Cadence tweeter mounted in a similar spot to where you where talking about before.

All run actively of course I would probably try the main tweeter down low first with the secondary up top first. I really have not liked any metal tweeters up high as they are usually to harsh for me ( Boston, Focals etc ).

You are gunna take forever to pick a front stage but I'm sure you will be happy with it when you finish! ID do make some decent woofer though, pity you don't have a larger range to select from like we do... or maybe that is a good thing lol.

i do have a whole big range to choose from, here and overseas.
I'm trying to support NZ local shops before going off shore.

However it has to be as simple as possible,
Install has to look clean and tidy,
            cannot stand out at all.
            And be with in budget.

What's my budget, i have no idea at all. lol
            This does not help either.

Lol I swear car audio really is an addiction. A bad bad one. Supporting the locals is a great thing, that is why I steer clear of fleabay.

It's a shame but I think I remember you saying you don't have a Morel dealer over there... they sound like they suit you down to a tee.

I am going to experiment with ambient tweeters in the new car. Ending up get a CJ Lancer VRX for the girl. At least it scored the 4B12 2.4litre.

yeah Car audio is a bad addiction i tell you, even thou we have good gear there is always better gear going to come out to we feel we should give try and this cycle never seems to end.

Well i believe the Sundown E8 has finally arrived on our shore down here.
So i feel i'll have to give them a go, alot of people that have them seem to be raving about them.

Could be a nice front addon in the centre console where theres a hole, Lol

Btw, nice score did not know they made the lancer with a 2.4. I guess it's like an Aussie specific model much like the old 1986 mazda 323/Familia with 1.6 turbo and 4wd was childs play. In South Africa they where release with 2ltr turbo and or 4wd.

Yeah its simliar to the Lancer GTS which is a US spec. Bascially its just a bored out 4B11. Has a Rockford Fosgate upgrade with a 8channel amp, 6inch splits up front, 2 ways in the rear doors and a 10inch sub. Main thing is the front are actually run actively. Not very loud but not bad from factory.

Plan is the replace the fronts with some Boston SL-60's I have ( xovers allow active ) and put the existing tweeters in series with the existing door mounted rear coaxials. That should mean they will be attenuated 3db over normal, plus then ill be able to fade them out with the rears, if I don't like it ill just disconnect them. Going to keep it as factory as possible.

You can give anything a go once, I'm sure you have some gear lying round spare if it goes pear shaped. I haven't heard much about them here, I'm sure you will find room in this car of yours.

Have you settled on a system yet?

nope not quite, i have actually been contemplating going Rainbow SLX265 Deluxe for front stage now, but will remain with IDQV2D4 as sub bass unless i can find a Soundstream Exact 10".

However if you look at my other thread in the mk3 section, you will notice that my car has no interior, however it's mostly back together.

But in light of everything that has gone on the past 6 days, i might be selling my vr6 now and going to a 1990 toyota corolla 1300cc hatchback.
Sounds very strange, but yeah will see.

I almost did start on the install this weekend, lol. Well i might this week if the vr6 starts and runs tonight, then i'll pull in intake manifold off and maybe powder coat the intake and cam cover at the same time. If i keep the car i'll do the install this week.

On a lighter note, while everything was apart i removed all audio equipment that was in the car when i bought it, some seriously old school boston Acoustic gear. I have replaced the front boston tweeters with some Alpine Type R tweeters i had laying around. Alot of people rave about them so i decided to give them ago, also the Type R crossover allows -6db att. I felt the tweeters where just to bright, i feel -3db will suffice but will start with -6db first. Also i'm running the tweeters out of phase to the mids. this generally results in not only a higher staging presence but also blends the gap with the tweeters and mids better. Or so i have found.

I will however for the meantime stay with passive cross-overs (booo, i know)
                    And run a small 2ch amp (around 120wrms x 2 @ 4ohm, lol). then use a sundown Z1000D as my bass amp, running 650Wrms @ 2ohm on the IDQv2D4 or 340wrms on Soundstream Exact 10.

I had the chance of playing with one for a few hours around 2 weeks ago, for price point and low power it sounded extremely good, blended very well with the front stage even made the front stage more midbass punchy. Could not once actually hear the sub as such. Only feel it (yeah just the way i like it, lol)

Did you end up keeping the VR6?

IDQ FTW! I really do like those woofers, its just a shame I have no use ( or car for that matter ha ) to need one.

i guess it's just due to either having to many options or none.

                        In my collection, i have ID8,IDQV2D4, IDQV3D2 and IDMAX10V3D2.
But as of tomorrow i can now add JL Audio 8W7, its a little monster, lol

Well i'll have sure answer as of tomorrow. If they guy takes my vr6 tomorrow then no, and i get an MK1 Jetta. If not than yeah i'm keeping the vr6.

But i found a Lupo and polo that i'm interested in. Yeah i know just to many options. But in the same breath i have found a MK4 Bora V6 4 Motion in electric blue.

Yeah I like your little collection. Had a look yesterday for a replacement woofer in the Lancer if she decides the RF doesn't cut it. Will probably settle for the ID 10v3. My jaw dropped when I seen the Xmax.

You should mount the JL in your door and get another one. That would be crazy!!
