  • Jap Import...... Navigation update and radio frequency expander.

    Hi
I have a 2009 Passat 3.2 VR6 FSI 4 motion imported from Japan. Is there a way to change the nav/radio system for normal use and Aus/VW maps? The unit is RNS 510 and I do have a Vag Com Pro cable and software, if that's any good.

    thanks in advance

The Jap radio stations have different spacings and frequencies to Aus and you used to be able to buy an adapter to change them. Were popular in NZ when Jap imports were all the go.

Kamold will know about whether you can change the maps. I would be more worried about whether any one will insure the thing as when I came in 2002 and looked at a Jap import Toyota Icouldnt insure it so didnt buy it.

Thanks for that. There are thousands of Jap import vehicles here in NZ- insurance isn't an issue. A normal DAB radio can be altered with a frequency expander from Jap frequencies to NZ (and Aussie) but I'm guessing that the RNS510 can be reprogrammed. I just need to find out how. Who or what is Kamold?

          Off Topic:

In respect to insuring imported cars, and especially Japanese Imports, there are insurers available (well, at least one) who have the capacity to provide cover and features and benefits the same as you would receive if you had purchased a typical 'vanilla' daily normally sold in Australia.

Yeah I know Just couldnt be bothered with the hassle and it was far overpriced as same model in NZ was half what they were asking so simply wasnt worth it.
I found a Commer van and got a door off it
