  • Golf GTI MK6 - Bluetooth 9W7 Coding

    Hi All

I've tried to code my new installed module but have encountered some malfunction codes. Funny thing is, everything is working, I have got the MFD and full bluetooth functionality.

Can someone please assist with some guidance?

    Thanks!

I just recently installed the 9W7 module in my my10 gti. Everything worked fine out of the box and bluetooth streaming was working as well.

I took the car to someone for coding to get the MFD and PTT to work. All good and working, but now the bluetooth streaming has stopped working as we changed the default telefone long coding and did not record the original values before changing.

I emailed the spanish fellow I purchased the 9W7 from to get the default 9W7 long code and he sent this through 0A000001010001000000100. I am going to try this to see if it reinstates my bluetooth streaming.

I thought I would post this here as it looks like the default code he supplied is different to yours. Not sure as I am new to this VAG-COM thing and am yet to order my own vag cable. If anyone else has got further information, please chime in.

Byte 3 (Diagnosis antenna) Should be inactive [01] where as yours is [00] active
Byte 4 (Diagnosis fixing laptop) should be inactive [01] yours is [00] active
Byte 5 (mute) should be active [00] [yours is [01] inactive

It looks like byte 3-5 are different that yours. My suspicion is that you should try and change byte 3 and 4 and see if this clears your fault codes. I am referencing Volkswagen 9WZ Bluetooth Programming | my-gti.com which is for the 9WZ part # 3C8 035 730 A... I can only assume that the bytes are the same as I cannot find any other programing information for the 9W7

I also wonder if byte 6 (I suspect is for the 3 buttons on the roof which my car does not have) could also cause an issue as I don't believe that the VW SMS function will work in australia.

Something else I noticed is that the default long coding has a few more bytes but in VCDS there appears no way to add or change bytes 8 and onwards. I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this.

I hope the above helps you somewhat.

I just got mine resolved. I contacted Dana from Ross Tech which provided me with excellent support. It turned out that because I don't have the overhead 3 button module, the telephone module was throwing up errors.

With the latest 10.6.4 VCDS software update, I was able to code the correct coding and the error went away

Thats good news. Out of curiosity with the latest VCDS version where you able to code the full 10/11 bytes?

Also can you confirm that Bluetooth streaming works when you also have the MFD and PTT coded?

Hi mate - I have the same two fault codes (9458195 and 13636352) after installing 9w7 - and also have no overhead buttons. What was the coding you changed please?

            Hi Jayray

I have a MY10 GTI with dealer fitted 9w2 bluetooth module. I just ordered an 9w7 off ebay and am about to do a swap. From what I gather, this should physically be just straight swap.

But can you tell me if I will need to code it for MFD and PTT like you did in your install? Will the old codes for 9w2 work for 9w7?

I don't have VCDS so can you refer me to someone in Sydney who can do it for me?

            Thanks!

              Hey Mate,
I am unaware if there are any differences in cable pinouts between the 9W2 and 9W7. I doubt there would be so you may be lucky and just need to replace the bluetooth modules under your seat (unless the dealer fitted the bluetooth behind the dash, which would not supprise me) without the need run the cables. However if you have no joy after plugging the bluetooth in than I would recommend just running the new cable. It is not too difficult to do, I have done it on two GTI's so far.

Yes I believe that the coding for the PTT and MFD should be compatible as the coding for those components is independent of the bluetooth module.

Regarding the coding if you want to get it done by a service center, I would recommend you head out to European Autotech. I have not used these guys, but have spoken to them on the phone and they seem quite helpful. I also get the impression from this forum that a few people have taken there cars there for coding. No idea how much they charge. I will pm you with some other details.

                Hi Guys

I recently change the BT unit from 9W2 to a 9W7. I unplug the 9W2 and plug in the 9W7. The unit is working fine, all the contacts sync with the RNS and MDI, i can also received calls.

The issues ive got is voice activation (The mic does not pick up what i said and the caller cannot hear). Have I instal the unit correctly? Have anyone come across the same issue?

can i ask how u cleared those errors using the vcds software?
                  i recently installed a 9wz module.
like u, everything (factory mic, steering controls, mfd, rns etc etc) works pefectly fine. but it would b nice to clear those faults as i too do not have the factory installed overhead 3 button module.

You have to code (base plate diagnosis) form 1 to 0, not sure which byte this will not effect operation.

                      Interested thread!

I just fitted a 9W7 unit to my '09 R36 Passat, everything is working and can view all necessary data on the RNS, and the white MFD shows my iphone status BUT, I can't actually scroll into my contacts/call register on the MFD via the steering wheel buttons?

It is strange because if the phone rings, the MFD displays that there is a call coming in, and whether I want to answer or not, but when I try and answer via the steering wheel the buttons aren't recognised.

Everything else can be accessed via the MFD, vehicle data, convenience, nav etc.

Is there something steering wheel related I haven't enabled in VCDS?

Take a look at the last byte under Telephone channel, but also look at the Steering Wheel channel and select adaptation. The hints should help you select the right button combo.

It is the standard steering wheel on there atm, although I will be fitting a Golf R wheel in a month or so.

From what you've said, it would appear that my steering wheel isn't set up correctly to access the phone data being displayed on the MFD?
Like I said, it all displays perfectly, when I miss a call it displays that on the MFD, but I can't manipulate the 'view missed call' [yes] or [no] etc.

If you have the cable and software, look at those sections i mentioned, also if you are there on tuesday i can take a look when i come to pick up the lip.
I dont exactly know the answer, i am new to this too :O
