    • Sorry for the NOOB question...but

I want to install an RNS510 and parking sensors. I need this to work with my existing reversing camera in split screen mode. VW quoted me $1200 complete job.

So how does this coding work? Is it a matter of getting a VW cable, PC and some software to tell the ECU to talk to the new accessories? Is this actually writing the code?

Where can I read up on this coding as I would like to learn. I'm sure my IT geek skills can be used for good

      • Most people go for the Ross Tech cable as it can cover all of the VAG family.

To find out how it works check here http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/main_screen.html

Parking sensors will mean you have to remove and drill the rear bumper and then run wiring looms inside your car to a controller and the RNS. It can be done DIY but is a few hours work.

                            • the Dark Side

Anyone in Melbourne's west able to help with a trouble-code scan? Check engine light just came on...

I'll set the scene: Just did a 4000km roadie which included maybe 7 fill-ups @ 7 different servo's & wasn't able to get 98 at 2 places, so reverted back to my 95 tune for about 1000k's in the middle somewhere. The final leg was from Newcastle to Melbourne in one hit (1100km's in 12 hours, 2 drivers) last Friday, when it was pretty well 38-40 deg C all the way. Also, in Sydney, i filled up when there wasn't much left in the tank, like a 'range' of 20km's, so probably less than 5 litres left...

Any ideas or anyone can help? Car is running fine now on 98 & 98 tune, but starting is a little 'strained', ie, the motor seems to have to turn over for a couple of seconds before it fires up.

                              Thanks.
