Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Please recommend ECU tuner in Perth WA

    Hi Guys

my mk7 is just over 2000km as speaking, i am thinking of getting a tune for it. I live in Landsdale and work at Malaga.

Original plan was APR no doubt, but since they are having a issue with HP, now i am taking second thought of it. Obviously APR is a trustworthy tuner with experience, but since HP as a OZ distributor most likely will walk away from APR, i'm concerning that APR may now at a position of lacking local tech support who can twists the program to suit local condition. but since i'm looking at stage 1 currently so all program would be no big difference.

So, basically i'm looking for a tuner and a helpful and reliable local mechanic to maintain my ride, that will be perfect if they happen to be the same shop. My choices at this stage:

Eurocare at Vic Park - a renowned APR tuner now is the only dealer in Perth area i assume.
Elite Euro at wangara - close to home, but seems like they don't do tuning judge from the website.
Ramp auto group Malaga - Just a block away from my work, how convenient is that! I think they are running their own brand of ECU tuning but i couldn't find much about their service or product.

Anyone who had pleasure (or horrible) story with these shops, please enlighten me the best way to go, appreciation!

best option is for you to go to facebook group and ask....
I'm not sure how comfortable you are with custom tune, but there's ramp autogroup who use Recode at Malaga,
Eurocare and Elite Euro are now doing oem+ (HP supported)
then you have eurospec who use Tarmac tune if i'm not wrong.

DSG holding up just fine, I drive it in manual mode most of the time.
But in most cases, everyday driving, Automatic does its job. Only when you start to bury your foot on auto mode it gets confused. But I've learnt to live with shifting manually for that.

Stage 1 and stock? Be prepared to buy new tyres every year and rotating them every 6 months. It's quite a jump.

Come down to coffee on Saturdays at Nedlands one time.

new tyres every year, the wife and wallet will not approve on that. Since i drive in manual very often just like you, did you ever experience any clutch dumping feeling between 1st and 2nd in manual mode? you know it's like you engage the clutch too quick when driving a stick and the car stalls.

ooh, first time i hear this coffee thing, mind feed me more info on it?

Yeah that happens to everyone. Technically you're shifting a manual gearbox.... but automatically.... if that makes sense.

Coffee is at Nedlands, Elixir at Stirling highway. Bunch of VAG fans meet up at 8:30am every Saturday, I'll be there this week.
A good place to get tips and tricks for any of your car needs.

it makes perfect sense and thanks for that! however, i'm still wondering why this is only happening to some of my take-offs, the others i just couldn't feel the stall at all and it's so smooth 1st to 2nd. i tried to find a pattern out of it, but no clue and dealer cannot find anything. is that same to you too?

Sounds like an enthusiast party, would like to be a part of it and will try to make it this week! don't know if they welcome a freshman or not lol~

Hey, I came in there when I first bought my car, not knowing anyone and any modding tips they're very friendly and warm people. Extra TLC if you bring a dog.

But yeah if you do come this week, look out for an Asian kid who looks out of place because of age difference.
