Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Where to get engine work done?

I'm in the middle of an engine rebuild and am looking to get my block and head and some other parts blasted and tanked so that they are super clean and easy to work with. Has anyone had this done and can recommend somewhere?

Furthermore, I require some machining of my lower valve spring retainers to accommodate for a high lift cam. Is this a safe way of achieving this? Or will it lower the seating pressure too much and cause problems later on? While I'm at it, I may want to resurface the head to get some extra compression out of it. If anyone can recommend a machinist to do this sort of work that would be great.

I'm in the S.E. suburbs of Melbourne.

Btw, I'm open any advice or suggestions at all.

    Cheers

For the head work in the south east I would go to Eddie Wood
He will be able to tank it as well
