  • Golf R Brake Performance

I am on my second set of ATE ceramic pads in my Golf R. It ventures onto the track now and then for a workout and I find these pads superb. They wear well, preserve the rotors (= longer rotor life) and create almost no visible brake dust. They cost a little more than the VW pads but as they double the rotor life they are very good value. Anyone who wants longer pad life and no brake dust with the benefit of longer rotor life check these out.
They outlast the factory pads by almost 100%.

They are available from HSY Autoparts
My last front pads cost me $197.91
    Rears are $86.71

They sound great for daily usage

Personally I love the Ferodo DS2500 pad
The brake reaction is instant and confidence inspiring
Works when cold and can be absolutely hammered without fading
But the dust is significant, they only lasted me 25,000km and took 1mm out of the rotor

The DS2500 is a great pad and I use these on my track car. They are as good as OEM cold but get getter with some heat into them. The dust is just as much as OEM pad and probably use more rotor.
I've also used Hawk pads and they have lest dust than OEM, and less squeal and kinder to the rotors than the DS2500. The hawks could handle some track work but after 8 laps at Wakefield in my MK5 they started to fade. OEM would last 5-6 laps. DS2500's last 10+ laps. I always run out of session first. These are all with fresh fluid and braided lines and sub 1:15 lap times in my MK5 GTI and sub 1:12's in my BMW 130i track car.
