  • 100 or 200 CEL Cat?

Getting a down pipe/HFC and tune done tomorrow and they want to know if I want a 100 or 200 CEL. Anyone have an opinion on this? They said the 100 will flow better but I cant help but wonder if this will be at the expense of something else? Tinny or boomy sound perhaps or more smell?. Im leaving the rest of the system stock.

    Cheers

100 cell will flow better than the 200 cell at the expense of exhaust cleaning ability. The emissions won't be as good on the 100 cell.

The noise out the sides shouldn't be affected.

Hey thanks Gav. Getting plenty of differing opinions re: this. Some say 200 is way better than stock so its irrelevant others saying get rid of the cat altogether! Id be worried about smell with no cat!

It's the cat that causes smells. It's part of the process, usually from cold engines/cats. No cat would remove that chance all together but then you'd likely get backfires in the exhaust that the cat would prevent. My G60 used to blow flames on the over run if you caught it right.

It can be tuned for any choice you make though. Now I have had a chance to think, I reckon 200 cell if you want to keep it, as long as you are reasonably sure the stock system is staying on.

Ok mate, 200 u rekon. Yeah id like to keep it (until I get bored of course) and id like to keep the stock system. So what makes you say 200? I like back fire(subtle ones of course). The gti used to backfire cold going down the hill in 4th sounded cool. I wonder what cat that had? They never even ask me!

Shouldn't you be in bed getting rest for your next days drive?

          Cheers

200 cell (metal) is the one used to pass the emissions test as a minimum. keep that in mind.
