Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

i know im not supposed to say stuff like this, given that viezu is a new company and chippeduk is a separate company even though the receptionist for both companies at HQ in the uk answers the same phone on the same phone number, same building etc etc...

but yeah. i've been nothing but absolutely happy with my chippeduk/viezu tune. i'll be getting them to do my next car, too, be that a RenaultSport or something badarse like a passat crosstrak etc etc.

Bugger... let us know how you go with a solution. I'm still waiting on someone, anyone, to come up with something for my particular Polo 77TSI, 5 months after first trying to tune it, doubt you'll have to wait too long though given the tuning popularity of the Golf GTI.

so what's the deal with anti-tune? does it just mean that handsets like the alientech powergate / bluefin dont work, and that you have to get the computer taken sent off to the tuner for mapping?

or does it mean that you cant even have the car dyno tuned, either? because that sucks...

So basicly the anti tunes wont allow the ecu flash via the obd port...greg said that they can take yhe ecu out to do it...but not as simple...viezu havent created a motorsport tune yet via that method so waiting for that....not to sure about ur dyno question.....

You can't flash them except by taking the ECU and opening it up to put it in boot mode. You do this by powering up a pin on the processor. Then you can read and write to it as if it were in the car.

Once this is done, the anti-tune feature is removed and the ECU is port flashable, at least it is with C-C.

Dyno tuning still requires flashing the ECU anyway regardless. So the same issue is there.

Yes a frustrating few hours last night trying to take a read of Kosy's new GTI, and whilst it's not certain yet, it sure looks like he has a MED17.5.5 ECU. This means it isn't flashable whilst in the vehicle unfortunately. I am seeking further advice on this for it appears this is the first one we and the other tuners I chat to have come across, and given it's not particularily new, it is rather perplexing.

Hats off to Kosy who sat there with me on a heck of a humid evening, battling endless attempts and mosquitos to boot to try and flash his GTI, oddly enough the V-switch handheld was able to ID the car, but my you beaut Kess Alientech box couldn't even do that!

On the upside we are now both experts in the GTI alarm system!

I have to give kudos to Kosy, who was SO keen that morning, and must have been so disappointed when I left last night ( I sure was bummed out!! ) yet the guy sends me a text later on thanking me for my time and efforts. Simply awesome.

I'll continue to investigate, but we shall have it tuned one way or another mate!!

Greg, speak to Simon because I was helping him out along the same lines for the polo GTI. The v switch can take a read on what the ecu is and identify it, but can't take a read of the map file. He emailed off the file the v switch took off my ecu to hq an the response was "ecu out and sent to us to bench tune, then we send it back".

I can get ECU details on 17.5.5 but need to surgically read the standard file

Did a MK6 TSI this week with the bench lead.

Unfortunately they are random, so we have to read them (in the car) to verify if it is encrypted, then flash the prom direct, most of the range going that way. Golf R just as random, bluefinned a couple but then had one that was encrypted. Only thing is it takes away the ability of the end user to turn off for the visits to the Dealer. Really down to whether that matters to each individual.

Greg, we see a couple a week. Best thing is they can go to VW as port flashable, and return the opposite - this has been happening for quite a while , would have been much quicker to pull the ECU & flash it out of the car - a 15 - 30 minute process & customer drives away tuned.
