  • Golf GTI MKVI - Exhaust Options

    Hi everyone,

I purchased a new Volkswagen GTi MKVI in August last year and am really enjoying the car!

I'm looking at upgrading my exhaust to add a bit more power and deeper sound. Could anyone please recommend an exhaust system or have advice on options that won't void my warranty.

    Thanks for your help!

    Lauren

front pipe for power, cat back for sound. so u need a complete system.
the usual suspects are- apr, milltek, 42dd, scorpion, remus.
personally, im not a fan of catbacks as i no longer desire any boominess or loud unwanted noises, thats why i went with the front pipe only

      Hi Lauren,

I've moved this thread to the Tuning and Performance forum - you should find plenty of good info in there!

As i said in the introduction thread, hit up Greg Roles (carformance) or Guy H (APR) as they have suitable parts.

I've long been looking at exhausts for the Mk6 GTI. I think I've listened to all the youtube vids, but never make a decision...

In addition to the ones walbjj has mentioned, there is also: Borla, Magnaflow, Eurojet, AWE, Akrapovic and probably many more.
I've recently come across the VWR Exhausts, and am following up with Ian @ Rennenhaus to see how much it is for us here.

You may have fun with the warranty with a different downpipe. Not 100% sure, hopefully someone else can shine some light on the warranty side of things.

Warranty will still be intact for all parts that are not directly related to the aftermarket accessory.

I.e. they can't claim that the nex cat-back exhaust system has affected your power window switch so that would be fine.
However, if there is an issue with the exhaust rattling on the underbody, they aren't likely to fix it under warranty.

We have the new Eurojet mk6 downpipes, turbo back and cat back exhausts in stock and ready to ship.

They are one of the nicest sounding turbo back systems out there. Not over the top but quite aggressive once you get up it!

In regards to warranty we generally recommend customers to find a good independent mechanic for generall servicing and in case of any warranty concerns it is possible to return the car back to stock before returning to your dealer. Its easier than arguing that your modifications didnt have any bearing on the problem.

In a nutshell, typically the Euro based ones such as Milltek are generally considered "quieter" and thus are often ordered without extra resonators. The Yank ones are generally considered "loud" and I reckon you'd be mad to get an unresonated one. A 2.5-2.75" cat back will always be a better choice than a 3", as the bigger pipes are really on the border of drone. Certainly I recommend against 3" from 42DD and similar USA brands with straight through Magnaflows, and it seems the USA guys and the Aussie guys have very different tolerances to what "drone" exactly is.

RSC Technology - full 3" unrestricted flow & guaranteed less drone than a stock exhaust. Use different length metal chambers to cancel out the bad sound waves - You can't do that with traditional mufflers unfortunately.

If I stick a ball in my rear muffler and it doesnt come out the other side what should I do?
