Hi Guys and Girls,
I just wanted to do a review on my current dealings with James from Bayside Performance Services or BPS in Brisbane. I dont work for James, we dont hang out on weekends. I would just like to give some credit when its due and share my experience.
Like many of you that want to tune your car there are so many options out on the market these days. Competition is tight and results are fairly close. I decided to go for a custom tune for a few reasons.
I like the fact that the tune was specific to my car and to the modifications I had. I wasn’t locked in to using a certain intake or a certain dump pipe. It didn’t matter. I picked all the parts I personally thought were going to work best for me and James tuned to suit.
I think 1 of the best things for me is I was talking face to face with the guy that was tuning my car. There were no emails over the internet to the other side of the world. It was direct dealings with the person tuning my car. If I wanted something a specific way e.g. rev limiter changed then it could be done on the spot. I also prefer supporting the local guy over the big international companies.
James has been doing this for a long time and has the results to prove it. He does many European cars and has been heavily involved in the Porsche seen. Not to mention just about every other car. From memory he currently has a skyline, S15, Twin Turbo V8 ute, 350Z, Porsche 996. So there is a large variety.
Now to my Car. (see signature for specs)
The cost for a full custom tune on a Golf R. $1095 with open ECU or $1195 via OBDII. I was very happy with the price.
The stock standard run was done with zero modifications, as is from factory. Then i added my modifications and James worked his magic.
I was there with James the entire time and saw all the runs on the dyno. Even after the car was basically finished and there was some fine tuning we turned boost levels back down to stock standard and witnessed it run 348nm of torque which is stock standard. Then back up to a massive 505nm and 193awkw. There is no fudge factor. Ambient temp was 23.5 and intake temp was 24. Shootout 44. End results are excellent; car is smooth and has excellent power delivery all the way to the red line.
Im not trying to tell you who to use or that someone is better than someone else. You need to make your own mind up. If you’re in Brisbane, just pop out and have a chat to James, its free (don’t chew his ear off though)
and then make your mind up.
