Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Downpipe for a MK6 Golf 118tsi

Have had a look on here and a couple of the other forums and haven't found any options for a downpipe for the 118tsi without having one custom made.

Are there any on the market?? Have looked into fitting one from the MK5 GT but from i gather the fit may be a little differenton the MK6.

    Thanks in advance,
    Anthony

I'm waiting for one to come on the market too. So I can complete my cat back system. You'll need a stage 2 tune to go with the downpipe as well. I don't know if any tuners have a stage 2 tune for the 118tsi?

I'm thinking I might just have to go with a Cat back system also and hope APR release a downpipe and some stage 2 software.
What cat back did you go with if you don't mind me asking?

I've got locally made custom job. They did an awesome job of it! It's 2.5", resonator, performance muffler and chrome tips. Goes well with my APR stage 1 version 2 tune. Yeah I hope APR do a downpipe and tune too!

We have a stage 2 file for most of the 118tsi's (if not, we can get one made) - make sure you use a 200 cell cat please!

Guy, any recommendations for parts? New to this territory!

Hey Guy, will the Polo GTI downpipe fit up to the Golf? Also will the Golf GTI fmic fit up to the Golf 118tsi?

Unfortunately we never had enough demand to build a DP for the MK6 chassis - that may change though, the problem is getting it to market at the right price whilst still being Austrtalian made.

I dont thing the Polo one would fit sorry.

Always use a quality 200 cell metal cat!

That's a pity. Can your exhaust fabricator make a one of? Does he run an exhaust shop?

Is there a brand that's suitable for VW's? Would magnaflow 200 cell cats be fine?

                    Sorry new to this stuff!

Magnaflow should be fine as long as its 200 cell metal inside.

The problem with the TSI downpipe & custom fab is a few things. 2.75 is the ideal size we are shooting for & its not super common, so some places don't keep it - secondly there are two heat shields that need to be fabricated onto the exhaust in the first section, there is a lot of wiring & coolant hoses running close to the upper section - not impossible, but very time consuming on one offs. We have also added extra heat protection where is passes under the intercooler return section & through the sump cavity. No use gaining horsepower if you add intake temps or shorten component life!

Would ceramic coating on the DP help?

Not in this particular case - it really needs a secondary shield.

Sorry, I meant in addition to the 2ndary shielding - I'm paranoid about heat soak.

Ceramic coating is an awesome idea, but benefit vs cost probably wont add up too much in this case.
