Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi, has anyone here had experience with a Map Tech re-tune?

    Map-Tech - Home

My local VW/Audi mech uses this re-tune for ecu upgrades.... can't seem to find all that much about them on the net.

Their own website doesn't even list the expected gains from their re-tune, just says "under construction"

    Thanks.

Well... a website is not really a good indication of whether a tuner is good or not. I know that a lot of people would argue that it is.
But for example, one of the best tuners around is GIAC, and their Australian site still doesn't list the MK6 Golf for example...

Having said that, there are lots of brands now popping up for VAG tuning, now that more and more of the Subie/Japanese car boys and even some of the Aussie muscle boys are jumping over to the VAG stable. I'd personally just use one of the established brands... have a look at the dozens of other threads (even on the 1st page of this sub-forum) which list them all...

There's plenty of "independent" tuners out there. I have looked at others myself, to widen the numbers of vehicles I can tune.

Celtic tuning was one that I was looking at. They all work in a similar fashion. I you have enough money you can easily set yourself up and have someone behind the scenes doing the software.

Whether you trust someone you never heard of to tune your car is another thing. Depends if you have access to any other tuners products where you live.

I think you could expect the same numbers as everyone else is getting, within a few percent. No one can suddenly find another 50hp.
